Grow Local, Eat Fresh: Fall Master Gardener Plant Sale Set for Oct. 11 in Rosenberg

September 25 2025

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out with a few pots on the patio, the Fall Vegetable-Herb Plant Sale hosted by the Fort Bend County Master Gardeners is the perfect place to dig into fall gardening.

Set for Friday, October 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bud O’Shieles Community Center (1330 Band Road in Rosenberg), this popular event gives residents a chance to shop locally grown vegetables and herbs while learning from the gardening experts themselves.

Everything at the sale has been grown from seed in the Master Gardeners’ own greenhouse, specifically chosen for success in Fort Bend County’s fall and winter climate. Featured plants include cool-season favorites like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, lettuce, mustard greens, collards, and kohlrabi. You'll also find flavorful culinary herbs such as cilantro, dill, parsley, salad burnet, sage, and thyme—all priced at just $3 per plant.

But the sale is more than just a chance to stock your garden—it’s a chance to grow your knowledge, too. Master Gardeners will be on-site to answer questions and share research-based advice on how to start or expand your fall garden at home. Whether you’re wondering when to plant your kale or how to keep parsley thriving into the holidays, they’ve got you covered.

Why Grow Your Own?

Growing vegetables and herbs at home is one of the easiest ways to live healthier, eat fresher, and reduce grocery bills. Even a small raised bed or a handful of containers on a sunny porch can yield fresh greens and herbs all season long. Plus, gardening gets you outdoors, reduces stress, and gives kids a fun (and tasty) reason to get involved.

By supporting the sale, you're also giving back to the community. Proceeds go directly toward supporting Fort Bend County Master Gardeners' public education programs through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. These programs bring hands-on horticulture classes, school garden support, and sustainable gardening education to residents throughout the county. No proceeds go to volunteers or unrelated causes—this is local support for local impact.

Shoppers can borrow wagons to carry their purchases, but please note: personal wagons and strollers will not be allowed inside the building for safety reasons.
