Greenbelt Park and Trail Project Unanimously Approved by Harris County Commissioners
In a significant move to enhance community connectivity, members of the Harris County Commissioners Court unanimously approved the Greenbelt Park and Trail Project during the October 8, 2024 Commissioner's Court meeting. This initiative, part of Precinct 4’s 2023 Call for Projects, aims to construct approximately 0.44 miles of new sidewalks that will connect the 44-acre Greenbelt Park to local amenities, including the Harris County Public Library - Maud Smith Marks Branch, Katy ISD's Memorial Parkway Junior High School, and Hazel S. Pattison Elementary School, as well as nearby shopping centers.
The project will take place within Nottingham Country Municipal Utility District (MUD), with the new pathways extending along South Fry Road, Westgreen Boulevard, and Highland Knolls Drive. The design will incorporate ADA ramps and enhanced crosswalks to ensure safety and accessibility for all pedestrians.
"This project is crucial for increasing mobility and connectivity in our community," said a representative from the Harris County Precinct 4 team. "By partnering with Nottingham Country MUD, we are creating an environment that promotes active lifestyles and greater access to local amenities."
The estimated cost for the Greenbelt Park and Trail Project is $1.3 million, with funding provided by Harris County Precinct 4 ($780,000) and Nottingham Country MUD ($520,000). Harris County will manage the professional engineering services necessary for the design and construction of the project.

"This initiative not only connects different parts of our community but also fosters a sense of pride and encourages residents to engage with their surroundings," the Precinct 4 representative added.
With the approval of the Greenbelt Park and Trail Project, Harris County is taking significant steps to enhance the quality of life for residents in the Katy area, promoting walkability and improving access to vital services, with the goal of creating a more connected and vibrant community.
