Get Ready to Run for a Reason: WHAM’s Spring Dash 2025 Returns This May

April 03 2025

Everyone’s invited to lace up, suit up, and show up for Spring Dash 2025—a superhero-themed 5K/1K fun run and walk hosted by West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM). Scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, the event kicks off at 8:00 AM at WHAM, located at 10501 Meadowglen Drive in Houston, welcoming runners, walkers, families, coworkers, and even caped-up canines to take part in a morning of fitness, fun, and purpose.

But this isn’t just a race. Spring Dash is WHAM’s way of rallying the community together to support something much bigger: the fight against poverty, hunger, and homelessness in Houston. Each step taken by a participant helps WHAM provide critical resources to families in crisis—from food and financial assistance to job training and education programs designed to foster long-term self-sufficiency.

“Spring Dash is more than just a run—it’s a celebration of what we can achieve when we come together to support our neighbors,” said Mark Brown, CEO of WHAM. “Whether you’re racing in a cape or cheering from the sidelines, you’re helping someone take their next step toward stability and independence.”

Participants of the 5K or 1K will receive a finisher medal, T-shirt, race bib, and a swag bag packed with sponsor goodies. After the race, runners can refuel and relax with food, drinks, fun activities, and raffles, all while celebrating their contribution to a vital local cause.

And don’t forget to bring your best superhero look—there’s a costume contest with prizes for individuals and groups who go all out. The contest is free for registered runners and just $10 for others who want to join in the fun.

“It’s a joy to see people of all ages, in their superhero gear, coming together to uplift others,” Brown added. “That’s what makes Spring Dash so special—it brings out the best in our community.”

Kids won’t be left out, either. WHAM’s Kid’s Zone will feature face painting, bounce houses, and plenty of activities to keep little heroes entertained.

All proceeds from the event go directly toward WHAM’s mission to empower families through a wide range of wraparound services. In 2024 alone, WHAM provided food assistance to more than 109,000 individuals, distributed over 1.8 million pounds of food and dry goods, and helped 922 people avoid eviction. The organization also supported over 1,300 individuals through employment and literacy programs, helping clients gain certifications, complete GED and ESL courses, and find new or better jobs. With the help of over 1,000 volunteers donating more than 23,000 hours, WHAM continues to serve more than 115,000 people each year, offering not only emergency relief, but long-term resources for resilience and self-sufficiency.

For those who want to help beyond the race, WHAM welcomes sponsors, donors, and volunteers. Sponsors gain visibility across event promotions and can set up booths during the event. To learn more about sponsorship or volunteer opportunities, email marketing@whamministries.org.

So dust off that cape, gather your team, and get ready to run, walk, or soar through Spring Dash 2025. Every mile matters when you’re moving with purpose.
