Get Free Tax Prep Help in Katy Starting February 1
AARP Foundation, in partnership with the IRS, is gearing up to provide free tax preparation services in Katy. The service, known as AARP Tax-Aide, is the largest free volunteer-run program in the nation. In 2022, over 25,000 volunteers filed more than 850,000 tax returns, with more than 3,000 of those filed in West Houston/Katy alone. This service, designed primarily for taxpayers with low to middle income, imposes no income limitations, AARP membership requirements, or minimum age restrictions.
The AARP Tax-Aide program offers a multitude of services, including tax return preparation, electronic filing assistance, and expert advice for navigating tax inquiries, including right here in Katy. From February 1 to April 15, the AARP Tax-Aide program will operate in several easily accessible locations across the area, such as neighborhood libraries, community centers, and senior centers, offering assistance with a wide range of tax return types. They accommodate amended returns, returns spanning the past three tax years, and various tax forms. Moreover, their helpers can expertly navigate returns that account for a variety of income types, including wages, pensions, capital gains/losses, unemployment compensation, and other retirement-related income.
In addition to preparing returns, this program provides help with self-employment income subject to limits, itemized deductions, and a range of tax credits. These credits include the earned income credit, education credits, and child/dependent care credits. This profound list of service scope ensures comprehensive care for taxpayers seeking to understand and complete their tax obligations.
The Cinco Ranch Library and the Katy Senior Center are two of the many locations where AARP will be offering tax assistance, which are open on Mondays from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, and Tuesdays from 12:00 to 4:00 PM, respectively. For more detailed information regarding site locations, operating hours, and necessary documentation for tax return completion, visit the AARP website or the West Houston/Katy website.
