Fulshear Simonton Fire Department Celebrates Historic First-Ever Engineer Promotional Process
In a landmark moment for the fast-growing Fulshear Simonton Fire Department, 16 firefighters have been officially promoted to the rank of Engineer following the department’s first-ever Engineer promotional process—a rigorous, two-day assessment aimed at recognizing leadership and technical excellence.
Held June 24–25, the promotional process drew participation from 28 firefighters who undertook both a written exam and hands-on skills evaluation. The initiative marks a significant step in the department’s mission to prepare for growth, professionalize its ranks, and continue meeting the needs of the expanding Fulshear, Simonton, Jordan Ranch, and Lakes of Bella Terra communities.

“We’re incredibly proud of all 28 candidates who stepped up to take part in this historic process,” said Doug Boeker, Fire Chief of the Fulshear Simonton Fire Department. “The promotion of these 16 Engineers marks a new chapter in our department’s future as we continue to expand and meet the needs of our growing community.”
Founded to serve the rural areas of northern Fort Bend County, the Fulshear Simonton Fire Department (FSFD) has grown alongside its city, which is now one of the fastest-growing regions in Texas. With multiple fire stations and a staff of dedicated full and part-time firefighters, the department has steadily elevated its focus on leadership development, advanced training, and operational capacity to best serve neighborhoods like Cinco Ranch II.

The inaugural promotional testing process was made possible through regional collaboration. Proctors and evaluators from the San Marcos Fire Department and other surrounding departments played a vital role in ensuring the exam’s fairness and integrity.
“This was more than a promotional process—it was an investment in our people and our future,” Chief Boeker added. “We look forward to seeing these new Engineers step into their roles and continuing to serve our citizens with pride and professionalism.”

While 16 firefighters were promoted immediately, the 12 additional candidates who completed the process successfully will be placed on an eligibility list for future Engineer positions. Their opportunity could come sooner than later—FSFD is preparing for the launch of two new fire stations currently under development in the Jordan Ranch and Bella Terra communities, expected to be operational within 18 to 24 months.
The creation of the Engineer rank is part of a broader initiative to standardize promotion paths, elevate internal leadership, and ensure high service standards as the department adapts to the demands of an increasingly urban and diverse service area.

As the Fulshear Simonton Fire Department moves into this next chapter, community members, including those in Cinco Ranch II, can take pride in knowing that the department continues to invest in training, talent, and forward-thinking infrastructure to keep residents safe.
