Fulshear Police Officer Deven Banitt Awarded Medal of Valor for Heroic Actions
At the City of Fulshear city council meeting, Officer Deven Banitt of the Fulshear Police Department was honored with the prestigious Medal of Valor for his extraordinary courage and selflessness during a life-threatening incident in October 2024. The award recognizes his decisive actions that likely saved lives and prevented a potential tragedy.
On October 6, 2024, Officer Banitt responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence, assisting the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. Arriving ahead of other units, he immediately attempted to make contact with the occupants. After hearing yelling from inside the home followed by gunshots, Officer Banitt made the swift decision to act.
With no backup on the scene, Officer Banitt forced entry into the home by kicking in the door. Armed with only his sidearm, he searched for the source of the threat. Inside, he encountered a female victim and ensured her safety by guiding her out of harm’s way.

Moments later, Officer Dontre Thomas arrived to assist. Together, the officers subdued the suspect, taking him into custody without further incident. A subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect had fired three shots at his mother at close range, miraculously missing each time.
