Fulshear Branch Library AAPI Celebration 2026: Free Family Event Showcases Culture, Food, Dance and Community Connection

April 09 2026

Families in Fulshear and across Fort Bend County will have an opportunity to experience the richness of Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage in a way that’s both educational and deeply community-focused. On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Fort Bend County Libraries’ Fulshear Branch Library will host a free, family-friendly AAPI Celebration designed to bring neighbors together through shared cultural experiences.

Held at the Fulshear Branch Library (6350 GM Library Rd, Fulshear, TX 77441) from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the event reflects something many residents say they value most about the area: opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate diversity close to home. For families, it’s a chance to turn a typical Saturday into something memorable—without leaving the community.

A Day of Cultural Experiences Designed for All Ages

The AAPI Celebration is thoughtfully structured to guide attendees through a variety of traditions, performances, and hands-on experiences that highlight cultures from across Asia and the Pacific Islands.

The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with Polynesian storytelling by My Hula Hut, where guests will be taken on a journey through dance, music, and storytelling. The performance introduces audiences to the traditions, costumes, and instruments of Polynesian islands in an engaging and immersive way.

At 11:30 a.m., the focus shifts to wellness and nutrition with Ayurvedic Cooking: Food as Medicine, led by chef and educator Karuna Diedericks of Karuna’s Kitchen. Drawing from more than two decades of experience, the session explores how plant-based ingredients, spices, and traditional Ayurvedic principles can be used to create balanced, nourishing meals at home. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample dishes and learn practical techniques for everyday cooking.

Bringing Traditions to Life Through Interactive Learning

The event continues at 12:30 p.m. with Mahjong 101, hosted by The Mahj Society, a Fort Bend-based group dedicated to building community through the traditional Chinese game. This interactive session offers a welcoming introduction to Mahjong’s history, cultural significance, and gameplay, giving participants the chance to learn and even try the game themselves.

For many residents, experiences like this offer more than entertainment—they create moments of connection across generations and backgrounds, helping neighbors better understand one another in a growing and diverse community like Fulshear.

High-Energy Performances Close Out the Celebration

As the afternoon unfolds, the energy builds with performances that bring modern and traditional expressions of AAPI culture to life.

At 1:30 p.m., The One Dance Studio will deliver a high-energy K-Pop dance performance, showcasing the global influence of Korean pop culture through dynamic choreography and music. Founded in Houston in 2019, the studio has built a reputation for excellence under the direction of award-winning dancer Frida Qu.

The celebration concludes at 1:45 p.m. with a vibrant lion dance performance by the Soaring Phoenix Lion Dance Troupe, a Houston-based group known for its dedication to cultural education and community outreach. Featuring eight lions, acrobatic routines, and a festive finale complete with confetti, the performance symbolizes strength, good fortune, and shared celebration.
