Free Tax Preparation in Katy and West Houston: AARP Tax-Aide Offers Expert Assistance Through April 15
Tax season is here, and for many, the process can be overwhelming and complicated. But what if you could get expert assistance at no cost, ensuring your tax returns are filed accurately and on time? The AARP Foundation, in cooperation with the IRS, is offering free tax preparation assistance to eligible individuals in the Katy and West Houston area through the AARP Tax-Aide program.
AARP Tax-Aide has convenient locations in neighborhood libraries, community centers, and senior centers, with ten sites available in the West Houston/Katy area. In Katy and Fulshear, tax preparation services will be available at The Fellowship, located at 22765 Westheimer Parkway (enter off Peek Road) on Mondays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and at the Katy Senior Center, located at 5370 E. 5th Street in Katy, on Tuesdays from 12 PM to 4 PM through April 15th. These sessions aim to make tax filing stress-free while helping taxpayers maximize their refunds and navigate the process with confidence.

The program primarily serves taxpayers who are 50 and older or have low to moderate incomes. However, there is no strict income limit for receiving assistance from AARP Tax-Aide. Volunteers, who are trained and IRS-certified annually, provide services including tax return preparation (including amended returns and returns from the prior three tax years), electronic filing, and answering tax-related questions. AARP membership is not required, nor is there a minimum age requirement—most returns can be prepared through this program.
To access free tax services, individuals should bring essential documents such as a valid photo ID, Social Security cards, tax forms from employers and banks, and documentation of relevant expenses. A full list of required documents and eligibility details can be found on the AARP Tax-Aide website.
