Fort Bend County Youth Employment Program Offers Paid Summer Jobs and Career Development for Local Teens

Fort Bend County is once again offering young residents an opportunity to gain valuable work experience through the Fort Bend County Youth Employment Program (YEP). The initiative, which has provided nearly 1,000 youth with summer employment since 2019, will run from June 4, 2025, to July 31, 2025. Applications for the paid summer jobs program will be accepted from January 13, 2025, through March 14, 2025.

The program is open to local residents aged 16 to 21, offering them the chance to work full-time (40 hours per week)and earn between $10 and $15 per hour while receiving hands-on training in professional work environments across Fort Bend County.

According to Fort Bend County Treasurer Bill Rickert, the program is designed to help young people develop workplace skills, build confidence, and gain access to career resources that will support their transition into the professional world.

“We encourage all eligible youth to take advantage of this opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to our community,” Rickert said. “This program offers hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to various career paths within Fort Bend County, helping you gain skills that will set you up for future success.”

Program Overview and Job Responsibilities

Participants in the Youth Employment Program will be assigned to different Fort Bend County departments, where they will assist with administrative, clerical, and customer service tasks. Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing general office support to department staff
  • Conducting data collection and entry
  • Sorting and distributing mail and correspondence
  • Scanning, filing, and records management
  • Answering phone inquiries and assisting the public
  • Managing inventory and office supplies
  • Assisting with social media and website updates
  • Helping with presentation preparation and office technology
  • Maintaining confidentiality and security of data and documents

These roles provide young workers with exposure to teamwork, time management, and professional communication, skills that are essential for future employment.

Eligibility and Application Process

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be between the ages of 16 and 21
  • Reside in Fort Bend County
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for eight weeks
  • Commit to the full program duration: June 4, 2025 – July 31, 2025
