Fort Bend County Appoints Roosevelt Weeks as New Library Director, Bringing Over Two Decades of Experience and Vision
The Fort Bend County Commissioners Court has announced the appointment of Roosevelt Weeks as the new Library Director of Fort Bend County library system, taking the post on October 7, 2024. With a career in library leadership extending for over two decades, Weeks has an impressive history in the field.
His recent role was Library Director at the Austin Public Library system, a position he held for seven years. Prior, he served for 11 years as Deputy Director/Chief of Staff and Chief Technology Officer at the Houston Public Library (HPL).
Weeks is renowned for his dedication to improving technology, literacy, and education within the communities he serves. As he aims to empower individuals with the critical tools they require for future success, he is committed to ensuring the community is equipped with the sophisticated critical-thinking skills essential for thriving in today's dynamic, competitive environment.

In addition to his professional achievements, Weeks has been widely acknowledged for his strategic vision, exceptional leadership, and dedication to advancing library programs and services. Among his accolades are the "Texas Librarian of the Year" by the Texas Library Association in 2023, the University of North Texas Outstanding Alumni Award in 2023, and the esteemed national award "I Love My Librarian" from the American Library Association in 2016.
Weeks is also an active member of several library organizations, including the Texas Library Association, the American Library Association, the Public Library Association, and the Urban Library Council, where he serves as Past Board Chair.

Weeks holds an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Texas Southern University and a master’s degree in library science from the University of North Texas. He, alongside his wife Valecia, are active participants at the Holman Street Baptist Church in Houston, where he serves as a deacon.
