Fall Classes, Family Day, and Final Weeks to See Summer Exhibitions at The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts

Just a few weeks remain to see the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Art’s summer exhibitions, which conclude on September 2. A fun-filled Family Day will be held on Saturday, August 26 to wrap up this summer’s festivities.

More excitement is just around the corner with the fall session of classes at the Pearl’s School of Art, which begin September 11, 2023.

Family Day: Saturday, August 26

The Pearl will host its next Family Day on Saturday August 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the community, with art activities, entertainment, a food truck and more. For details and a schedule of events, visit pearlmfa.org.

Elephant & Piggie in WE ARE ART! (A Mo Willems Exhibition)

Elephant & Piggie in WE ARE ART! (A Mo Willems exhibition), has brought joy to thousands of visitors at the Pearl this summer. The exhibition continues through September 2, 2023, and is organized by The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts.

This free exhibition features 75 works including a selection of original illustrations, color digital renderings, early sketches, dummy books and more, as well as a cozy reading area for families to enjoy these wonderful stories together. Since their debut in 2007, Elephant & Piggie have entertained millions of children and adults with their hilarious escapades that impart valuable lessons on manners, empathy, emotions, and—most importantly—friendship.

The Pearl’s presentation of Elephant & Piggie in WE ARE ART! is generously sponsored by AAUW North Harris County Branch. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and admission is FREE. For more information visit pearlmfa.org.

Keittoodles: Enter a World of Color and Imagination

In the Cole Gallery this summer, the Pearl welcomes visitors into a world of color and imagination with Keittoodles by local artist and retired teacher, Beth Brubaker.

Keittoodles features more than 50 pieces from the Land of Keittoodles in an interactive environment where children can explore their Colorworld. The exhibition continues through September 2, with museum hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is FREE. For more information visit pearlmfa.org.

Fall Classes at the Pearl Fincher Museum’s School of Art

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts has a wonderful array of classes and workshops this fall, for ages preschool through adult.

Youth classes include ceramics, drawing, fashion design, watercolor, recycled art, and mixed media, as well as classes specifically for homeschool students. Classes are designed for various ages ranging from 6 to 15 years old, and all materials are included.

The first session begins September 11, with a second mini-session starting November 6. For course descriptions or to register, visit pearlmfa.org.

Adults can get in on the fun as well, with weekly art classes or half-day workshops, in subjects such as watercolor, ceramics, and drawing.

Preschool Programs

Little ones love the Pearl’s preschool programs!

Little Art Historians will take place on Wednesday mornings in October for ages 3 to 5. Children learn about a new artist each week and create fun projects inspired by that artist. Registration is required for this course.

Art Start is offered every Tuesday morning and includes story time and a related art activity. The program is free thanks to a generous gift from AT&T. Space is limited, so please register online.

Grant Awarded by Texas Women for the Arts

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is honored to be the recipient of a $2,000 grant from Texas Women for the Arts (TWA), a program of the Texas Cultural Trust.

“We are so grateful for TWA’s support,” said Courtney Gardner, director of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. “Every day, we work to make art accessible to everyone in our community. Gifts from individuals and organizations like Texas Women for the Arts is what makes that work possible.”

TWA is a statewide giving circle and membership program whose mission is to awaken and nurture the artist in every Texas child. Established in 2005, this philanthropic force of influential women from across the state has awarded 362 grants, totaling more than $4 million, and impacting more than three million Texas children.

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts exists to provide direct, first-hand access to original works of art, and to offer outstanding educational and public programming. As the only Fine Arts museum in Harris County outside the city center of Houston, the Pearl operates completely through the generous donations of individuals, businesses and foundations from the greater Houston community, and is free to all.
