Falcon Ranch Gets a Bright Upgrade with New LED Streetlights
Falcon Ranch residents may have noticed their evening walks and nighttime drives looking a little brighter lately—and that’s no coincidence. Thanks to the initiative of the Falcon Ranch HOA, the neighborhood has officially completed a major streetlight upgrade that promises safer roads, improved visibility, and energy savings for years to come.
The project began in 2023 when HOA Board President Mary Beth Jones registered the Falcon Ranch community to participate in CenterPoint Energy’s LED Streetlight Conversion Program. One year later, the transformation is complete.
“I am happy to announce that the project is complete. I drove the community and the new lights really do make a difference,” shared Jones. Her efforts have helped Falcon Ranch join a growing list of Texas communities transitioning to LED lighting through CenterPoint Energy’s initiative.
Why the Change Matters
The upgrade replaces traditional high-pressure sodium streetlights with energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures. These modern lights offer a variety of community and environmental benefits that go far beyond just brightness.

According to CenterPoint Energy, LED streetlights:
- Use about 50% less energy than traditional bulbs
- Last significantly longer, reducing maintenance needs
- Lower greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 5%
- Direct light more precisely, reducing light pollution
- Improve safety by better illuminating roads and sidewalks
These changes are part of a much larger regional movement. In Houston alone, CenterPoint has already converted 80% of the city’s 173,000 streetlights to LED, reducing energy consumption by an estimated 70 million kilowatt hours annually. That’s enough power to sustain approximately 5,400 homes for a full year. These efforts also play a crucial role in advancing Houston’s long-term environmental goals, including cleaner air and reduced emissions.
