Escapology Escape Room Experience Planned for Downtown San Antonio’s Albert Maverick Building
Downtown San Antonio may soon gain another interactive entertainment option as Escapology, a rapidly expanding escape room franchise, plans to open a new location inside the historic Albert Maverick Building at 515 E. Houston St. The project, filed as a renovation and interior finish-out, reflects the continued evolution of San Antonio’s urban core as developers and entertainment operators look to create experiences that draw visitors and residents into the city center.
According to project filings in Bexar County, the planned Escapology San Antonio location will renovate approximately 8,777 square feet of space on the building’s ground and basement levels. Construction is scheduled to begin May 18, 2026, with completion targeted for November 30, 2026. The project carries an estimated cost of $400,000 and will convert the space into a series of themed game rooms designed for immersive puzzle-solving experiences.
What Escapology Brings to San Antonio
Escapology is considered one of the world’s largest escape room franchises, with more than 50 locations globally and continued expansion across the United States and internationally. Currently, there is one Escapology location in San Antonio, at 602 Northwest Loop 410, Ste 142, San Antonio, TX 78216. The concept centers around interactive escape room games where small groups work together inside a themed environment to solve puzzles, uncover hidden clues, crack codes, and complete a mission before time runs out.
A typical Escapology experience lasts about 60 minutes inside the game room, though visitors are encouraged to allow roughly 90 minutes for the full experience, including pre-game orientation and post-game debrief. Teams are guided by a Game Host who explains the storyline, mission objectives, and rules before the challenge begins.
Unlike some escape room concepts that combine groups, Escapology’s model typically offers private bookings so each game is reserved for one group at a time. Participants can request hints from a Game Master during the experience if they become stuck, helping keep the game moving while preserving the puzzle-solving challenge.

Immersive Entertainment Continues Expanding Nationwide
The escape room industry has grown significantly over the past decade as consumers seek more interactive entertainment experiences that blend storytelling, teamwork, and problem-solving. Escapology was founded in 2014 in Orlando, Florida by brothers Simon Davison and Paul Davison, who saw an opportunity to build a brand around high-quality, immersive escape games.
Since then, the company has expanded internationally with locations across the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, and Mexico. Many of the brand’s game rooms feature cinematic themes, licensed intellectual property partnerships, and elaborate set designs intended to immerse players in the storyline.
The planned San Antonio location would join a growing network of Escapology venues offering themes ranging from mystery and adventure to nostalgic or suspense-based challenges. Game rooms typically feature multi-step puzzles, hidden objects, and story-driven missions designed to encourage collaboration among players.
Downtown San Antonio Continues Attracting Experience-Based Venues
Projects like Escapology reflect a broader trend in downtown redevelopment, where experiential entertainment venues—such as interactive museums, immersive attractions, and escape rooms—are increasingly becoming part of the urban landscape. These types of attractions often appeal to tourists, corporate groups, birthday celebrations, and local residents looking for unique group activities.
Escape rooms are frequently used for team-building events, family outings, and social gatherings, offering a collaborative environment where participants must communicate, share ideas, and solve challenges together.
While the project is still in the construction planning phase, the renovation of space inside the Albert Maverick Building highlights ongoing efforts to activate historic downtown properties with new uses that bring energy and foot traffic to the surrounding area.
If completed as scheduled, Escapology San Antonio could open its doors later in 2026, adding another interactive destination to the city’s growing entertainment and tourism scene.
