Electrify America to Build EV Charging Station at The Commons in Willowbrook

January 06 2026

Drivers in the Willowbrook area will soon have a new reason to plug in and power up. Electrify America, one of the nation’s leading electric vehicle (EV) charging networks, is set to break ground on a new state-of-the-art EV charging facility at The Commons at Willowbrook, located at FM 1960 and Centerfield Drive near Willowbrook Mall.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in late July 2026, with completion expected by mid-December 2026. The $1 million project will transform a previous building site into an 8,000-square-foot fast-charging station, complete with cutting-edge dispenser and power units designed to serve the growing number of EV drivers across Harris County.

Powering Up Houston’s EV Future

The upcoming Willowbrook Electrify America station is part of a broader effort to expand clean transportation infrastructure throughout the Greater Houston area. Strategically located along Cypress Creek Parkway (FM 1960) near Highway 249, the station will enhance accessibility for local drivers, commuters, and travelers alike—especially those visiting or working near Willowbrook Mall and the surrounding retail centers.

As part of Electrify America’s coast-to-coast charging network, the new Willowbrook station will support a variety of EV makes and models, including those from Tesla, Ford, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Audi. Like other installations by the company, the Willowbrook site is expected to feature Hyper-Fast DC chargers capable of delivering up to 350 kW of power—enabling many drivers to recharge in as little as 20 minutes.

High-Tech, Low-Impact Charging

In alignment with Electrify America’s sustainability goals, the Willowbrook charging hub will include smart energy infrastructure, such as battery energy storage systems (BESS). These systems help minimize pressure on the electric grid during peak demand times and make it possible to offer consistent, fast charging even in areas with limited utility capacity.

Every charge at this new site will also be backed by 100% renewable energy through certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), ensuring a net-zero carbon footprint for drivers concerned about their environmental impact.

Electrify America has already committed over $2 billion nationwide toward building EV infrastructure and supporting equitable access to Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs). The Willowbrook station will be another step forward in that mission—bringing clean, fast, and reliable charging options closer to residents and businesses in northwest Houston.

A Welcome Addition for Willowbrook Residents and Visitors

The convenience of charging near popular dining, shopping, and service destinations makes this new facility a community-centric amenity. For local EV owners—or those considering making the switch—it means shorter wait times, faster charging, and an easier transition to eco-friendly driving.

With the continued expansion of EV adoption across Texas, the need for public charging infrastructure is greater than ever. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the number of registered electric vehicles in Texas more than doubled between 2020 and 2023—a trend expected to accelerate well into the next decade.

Looking Ahead

The Willowbrook charging station joins other recent projects across the region, including an Electrify America facility underway in Katy’s Westside Pointe development. As the network grows, drivers throughout the Houston area will enjoy a more seamless and reliable EV charging experience.
