East Central ISD Launches Summer@ECISD Programs to Keep Students Learning, Active and Connected All Summer Long

May 04 2026

With summer just around the corner, East Central ISD is opening registration for a wide range of Summer@ECISD programs designed to help students continue learning, explore new interests and stay connected with their school community long after the final bell rings.

The district’s 2026 summer programming includes academic camps, enrichment opportunities through Camp Explore and a full slate of athletics camps for students from elementary through high school. For many East Central ISD families in San Antonio, Converse and surrounding communities, the programs provide more than just summer activities — they offer structured opportunities for growth, mentorship and preparation for the upcoming school year.

From credit recovery for high school students to robotics, dance, photography and sports development camps, Summer@ECISD reflects the district’s broader effort to support the whole child academically, socially and physically.

Summer Academic Camps Aim to Keep Students on Track

East Central ISD’s academic camps are focused on strengthening foundational skills, building confidence and helping students stay academically engaged during the summer months.

Registration is currently open for two programs:

  • Superstar Camp for incoming kindergarten through fifth-grade students
  • Credit Recovery for students in grades 9-12

The Superstar Camp is designed to provide engaging academic experiences that help younger students continue learning in a supportive environment while maintaining momentum heading into the next school year. Registration for the program closes April 30.

Meanwhile, the district’s Credit Recovery program offers high school students an opportunity to earn course credit and stay on track for graduation — an important resource for students seeking flexibility and academic support over the summer.

District officials noted that additional academic camp offerings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Camp Explore Brings Hands-On Learning Opportunities to Students

For families looking to blend creativity, enrichment and summer fun, Camp Explore offers a diverse lineup of hands-on camps across multiple interests and skill levels.

Held at Sinclair Elementary in San Antonio and Honor Elementary in Converse, the enrichment program includes activities ranging from art and photography to self-defense, dance and piano instruction.

Programs scheduled throughout June include:

  • Robotics and STEAM-focused camps
  • Kidcreate Studio art experiences
  • Drama and puppet theater
  • Dance and cheer camps
  • Photography and design workshops
  • Cooking and reading enrichment
  • Piano instruction
  • Archery and self-defense

Camp Explore sessions are offered in morning, afternoon and full-day formats, providing flexibility for families planning summer schedules.

District leaders say the goal is to give students opportunities to discover new passions while continuing to build creativity, collaboration and confidence outside of a traditional classroom setting.

For many families in the East Central area, enrichment programming can also help bridge the gap between school years by keeping students engaged in structured, social learning environments during the summer months.

East Central Hornets Athletics Camps Focus on Skill Development and Leadership

Summer@ECISD also includes an extensive lineup of East Central Hornets sports camps aimed at helping student-athletes improve their skills while reinforcing teamwork, discipline and character development.

Hosted primarily at East Central High School athletic facilities, the camps cover a broad range of sports and age groups, including:

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Volleyball
  • Baseball
  • Softball
  • Tennis
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Distance running

The district’s Strength and Conditioning Camp for incoming seventh- through 12th-grade students runs from June 8 through July 9 and is led by the East Central Hornets coaching staff. In addition to athletic training, the program emphasizes nutrition, competition, teamwork and leadership development.

Other featured programs include:

Mighty Hornet Football Camp

Designed for incoming second- through sixth-grade students, the camp introduces young athletes to football fundamentals while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.

Hornet Tennis Academy

The coed tennis academy for incoming second- through ninth-grade students focuses on technical instruction, supervised play and overall athlete development.

Lady Hornet Basketball Camp

Led by Head Coach Vanessa Villarreal and Hornet alumni, the camp helps future players strengthen offensive and defensive fundamentals while connecting younger athletes with the East Central basketball program.

Soccer, Volleyball, Baseball and Softball Camps

Additional camps throughout June and July provide sport-specific training opportunities for beginner and experienced athletes alike, helping students stay active and prepare for future competition.

Several camps were adjusted to accommodate the July 4 holiday schedule, including Boys Soccer Camp and Lady Hornet Volleyball Camp, which will now take place June 29 through July 1.

What Families Should Know Before Registering

East Central ISD officials are encouraging families to register early, as camp sessions require minimum enrollment numbers in order to proceed.

The district also noted:

  • Transportation will not be provided for summer camps
  • Camp Explore and Sports Camps operate as separate programs
  • Registration transfers may be allowed if a session does not meet enrollment minimums
  • Refund processing for district-level cancellations may take up to 30 days

Camp Explore programs will take place at:

Sports camps will primarily be held at:

Building Community Connections Beyond the School Year

As communities across the East Central ISD attendance zone continue to grow, summer programs like Summer@ECISD are increasingly becoming part of how districts support families year-round.

Beyond academics and athletics, the camps also create opportunities for students to build friendships, strengthen community ties and stay connected to positive mentors throughout the summer break.

For working families, the programs can also provide structured daytime opportunities that help students remain productive and engaged during the summer months.
