Dive Into Summer Fun at Your Local Library: Cinco Ranch Library’s Reading Challenge Is On—Join the Adventure

June 05 2025

As summer settles in across Fort Bend County, the Cinco Ranch Branch Library is once again opening its doors—and its storybooks—to Falcon Ranch residents with the launch of the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge. This annual program is part of a countywide initiative by Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) to keep readers of all ages engaged, inspired, and connected through the joys of reading.

This year’s theme, “Color Our World,” encourages participants to use books as a way to explore imagination, build knowledge, and enrich their summer experiences. From toddlers flipping through picture books to adults catching up on novels, there’s something for everyone—and plenty of prizes to sweeten the deal.

Open to All, Free for Everyone

One of the most inclusive programs of the season, the Summer Reading Challenge is open to all ages and all communities, with no residency or library card requirement. Registration is free and can be completed at fortbendlibraries.gov or through the Beanstack Tracker app, available for download on the App Store and Google Play.

Once registered, participants can track the number of books or minutes they read, earning rewards and digital badges along the way. Prizes will be available for pickup at any FBCL location—including the conveniently located Cinco Ranch Branch Library—and all rewards must be claimed by August 29.

Why Summer Reading Matters in Falcon Ranch

Beyond being fun and free, the Summer Reading Challenge plays a crucial role in preventing the “summer slide,” the loss of reading skills that many students face during long breaks from school. The American Library Association reports that children can lose up to two months of reading achievement if they don’t stay engaged during summer.

Adults benefit too—research shows that reading regularly can reduce stress, improve memory, and even enhance empathy. Whether it’s a picture book, thriller, or memoir, every page turned contributes to a stronger, more connected community.

Incentives for Every Age Group

At the Cinco Ranch Library, local children, teens, and adults will have access to tailored challenges and age-appropriate prizes.

For Children (Birth–Grade 5)
  • 5 books: Fun bookmark
  • 10 books: Achievement certificate
  • 15 books: Stackable colored pencil
  • 20 books: Reading trophy
  • Bonus: Kids who read 20+ books will have their names displayed in the library and be entered in drawings for gift cards and puppet giveaways.
For Middle Schoolers (Grades 6–8)
  • 10 hours (600 minutes): Mystery prize
  • 20 hours (1,200 minutes): Reading trophy
  • 20+ hours: Entry in a branch-wide drawing for a gift card
For Teens and Adults
  • 1,000 minutes: Tie-dye pen case (while supplies last)
  • All eligible: Entry in a $25 gift card drawing and a chance to win the grand prize—a Fire HD 8 tablet

Teens will also find creative events and activities hosted at the Cinco Ranch Library throughout the summer months, offering social engagement along with literary enrichment.
