Dave’s Hot Chicken Plans First Katy Location at Texas Heritage Marketplace
Katy’s growing restaurant scene is about to get a little hotter.
Dave’s Hot Chicken, the fast-growing restaurant brand that turned a modest Los Angeles parking lot operation into an international hot chicken chain, is planning its first Katy location at 1552 Heritage Oak Lane, Katy, TX 77494, according to a newly filed state construction registration. The restaurant will join the expanding lineup of dining and retail options taking shape at Texas Heritage Marketplace in west Katy.
For families in Katy, Fulshear and surrounding communities, the planned restaurant adds another recognizable dining option along a part of the Interstate 10 corridor that continues to attract new development. It will also give local fans of Dave’s Hot Chicken a closer option than the brand’s existing restaurants elsewhere across the Houston area.
$500,000 Buildout Planned for New Katy Restaurant
A construction filing registered with the state on Sept. 29 lists the Dave’s Hot Chicken project as a 2,100-square-foot tenant buildout with an estimated construction cost of $500,000. The project is scheduled to begin Nov. 1, 2026, with construction projected for completion Jan. 31, 2027.
Those dates are construction estimates rather than a confirmed restaurant opening schedule, so Katy residents should not necessarily expect the doors to open immediately after the January completion date. As of early October, Dave’s Hot Chicken had not announced a grand opening date for the Katy restaurant on its official location directory.
The address itself is part of a newly constructed retail building at Texas Heritage Marketplace. A separate state filing describes the building at 1552 Heritage Oak Lane as approximately 15,050 square feet of shell space intended for future tenant buildouts. Other restaurant projects are also planned at the address, helping create a new cluster of dining choices within the development.
From a $900 Parking Lot Stand to Katy
Dave’s Hot Chicken began with the kind of humble, entrepreneurial start that has shaped the early chapters of many well-known restaurant brands.
The business traces its roots to East Hollywood in 2017, when childhood friends pooled about $900 and began cooking hot chicken with portable fryers and folding tables in a parking lot. Social media helped spread the word, and coverage from Eater Los Angeles brought even more attention. Lines followed, then a brick-and-mortar restaurant, and eventually a rapidly expanding franchise operation.
Chef Dave Kopushyan, whose first name became part of the restaurant’s identity, developed the chicken recipe alongside fellow founders Arman Oganesyan and Tommy Rubenyan, with Tommy's brother Gary later joining the business. By 2019, the company had struck a deal to begin franchising, setting the stage for an expansion that would eventually stretch well beyond Southern California.
That growth has brought Dave’s Hot Chicken to communities across the United States and internationally. The company said in August that it had sold rights to more than 1,500 franchise locations across the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East and expected to open more than 150 restaurants during 2026.
What Is on the Dave’s Hot Chicken Menu?
Despite that growth, Dave’s has maintained a relatively focused menu centered on Nashville-style hot chicken tenders, sliders and bites.
Customers can choose among seven spice levels, ranging from Not Hot to Reaper, allowing everything from a no-heat meal to one aimed squarely at diners looking for an intense spicy chicken experience. The company's chicken is halal.
Its signature sliders pair a hot chicken tender with a potato bun, kale slaw, pickles and Dave’s Sauce. The menu also includes fries, cheese fries, macaroni and cheese, shakes and other sides and specialty items, with the company periodically adding new variations. One recent addition, the Mac-Loaded Slider, tops the traditional slider with macaroni and cheese.
The combination of a streamlined menu and highly customizable heat is part of what separates the concept from a traditional fried chicken restaurant. A family can order from essentially the same core menu while choosing very different levels of spice.
Dave’s Hot Chicken Has Already Built a Houston-Area Footprint
While Katy will be new territory for Dave’s Hot Chicken, the brand is already familiar to many Houston-area diners.
The company's current Texas restaurant directory lists four Houston locations, including restaurants on Dennis Street in Midtown, Rice Boulevard near Rice Village, Westheimer Road in west Houston and Wallisville Road in northeast Houston.
Dave’s also has restaurants in Missouri City, Magnolia, Spring, New Caney and Webster, giving the chain a growing presence across Greater Houston. Its official Texas directory does not currently list an operating Katy restaurant, supporting the new Heritage Oak Lane project as the brand’s first location in the Katy market.
The expansion is notable for west Katy in particular. Instead of requiring residents to drive farther into Houston for the chain, the Texas Heritage Marketplace restaurant would put Dave’s along a major growth corridor serving established and newer communities on the western side of the Katy area.
Another Restaurant Takes Shape at Texas Heritage Marketplace
Dave’s Hot Chicken is arriving as Texas Heritage Marketplace itself continues filling out.
The 1552 Heritage Oak Lane building was designed specifically to accommodate multiple future tenant buildouts, and Dave’s will not be alone. A Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurant is planned in Suite 130 at the same address, while Biscuit Belly has also filed plans for a restaurant there.
For residents watching the commercial growth around west Katy, projects like these offer a more tangible look at what that development will mean day to day. New retail construction may begin as walls, parking lots and construction equipment, but eventually it translates into places where families grab dinner after school activities, neighbors meet for lunch and local workers find jobs closer to home.
What Happens Next for Dave’s Hot Chicken in Katy
The next milestone will be the restaurant’s buildout. If the currently filed construction schedule holds, work is expected to run from November 2026 through January 2027. A formal opening date, operating hours and Katy-specific menu pricing have not yet been announced.
What is clear is that Dave’s Hot Chicken is making its way west. For a restaurant that began with $900, folding tables and portable fryers in an East Hollywood parking lot, the planned Katy location represents another stop in an unusually fast expansion story, and another new dining choice for families watching west Katy continue to grow.
