Dill-icious Family Fun Heads to Elgin Farmers’ Market with Father’s Day Pickle-Making Activity
The Elgin Farmers’ Market is adding a little extra flavor to its weekly downtown gathering this June with a family-friendly event that combines fresh local produce, hands-on fun, and a creative Father’s Day gift idea.
On Thursday, June 18 from 4 to 7 p.m., residents can stop by the “Dill-icious Quick Pickles” activity at the Elgin Farmers’ Market, located at 109 Depot Street in downtown Elgin, where children and adults alike will have the chance to make their own jar of fresh pickles to take home.
The event is designed as a simple, interactive way for families to celebrate Father’s Day week while supporting local farmers and producers at the market.
Visitors who make a qualifying produce purchase at the market — including items such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, or meat — can receive a ticket from the market information booth to participate in the pickle-making station. Organizers say each child can create one jar while supplies last, with all ingredients and materials provided onsite.
For many Elgin-area families, the activity adds another layer to what has steadily become one of downtown Elgin’s most community-centered weekly traditions.
Held year-round at Veterans’ Memorial Park, the Elgin Farmers’ Market regularly brings together local growers, ranchers, bakers, artisans, and residents for an evening that feels as much like a neighborhood gathering as it does a shopping trip. The market is volunteer-run and focuses heavily on supporting producers who grow or make their products locally.
In recent months, the market has continued expanding its role as a community gathering space through live music, seasonal programming, and family-oriented activities that encourage residents to spend time downtown and connect with neighbors.
The “Dill-icious Quick Pickles” activity taps into that same spirit by giving children a chance to participate directly in the local food experience while creating something personal to bring home for Father’s Day.
Families planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early, as participation is available while supplies last.
The Elgin Farmers’ Market takes place Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. at 109 Depot Street in downtown Elgin.
