Cy Falls High School's Golden Eagle Theatre Company Brings 1940s Drama to Life with 'The Cover of Life' on May 8-9

May 01 2025

On Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9, 2025, the Golden Eagle Theatre Company at Cypress Falls High School invites the community to an evening of heartfelt storytelling as its Junior Varsity theatre students bring The Cover of Life to the stage. The performance will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. both nights at the Cypress Falls Auditorium, offering a unique blend of charm, humor, and emotional depth in this celebrated American drama.

A Moving WWII-Era Story with Modern Resonance

Originally written by R.T. Robinson and premiering off-Broadway in 1994, "The Cover of Life" is set in rural Louisiana in 1943, during the height of World War II. The story centers around Tood, Weetsie, and Sybill, three young women who each married a Cliffert brother now serving overseas. As they navigate life on the home front, their story catches the attention of Life Magazine, and famed journalist Kate Miller is sent to profile them.

While Kate initially sees the assignment as a step backward in her career, having just returned from covering the war in Europe, her week with the Cliffert women proves transformative. Through unexpected friendships and poignant realizations, all four women begin to confront their own struggles with identity, expectation, and power in a world shaped by men.

Filled with both humor and heart, the play explores themes of female empowerment, wartime resilience, and the quiet strength of women left behind. It’s a perfect fit for high school theatre—layered, accessible, and emotionally resonant for both performers and audiences.
