Conroe Tiger Band’s ‘Flags With Pride’ Program Brings Patriotism and Community Support to Barton Creek Ranch
For many families in Barton Creek Ranch, seeing rows of American flags lining neighborhood streets ahead of Memorial Day, Independence Day or Veterans Day has become more than just a patriotic tradition — it has become a visible reminder of community pride and local student support.
The Conroe Tiger Band’s “Flags With Pride” program is once again offering residents and businesses throughout the Conroe High School feeder zone the opportunity to have American flags placed at their homes for six patriotic holidays each year. The annual subscription costs $50 per flag, plus a $1 online processing fee, with proceeds helping fund music education opportunities for Conroe High School band students.
The community service fundraiser, which began in 2013, has steadily grown thanks to neighborhood participation across the Conroe area. For residents in Barton Creek Ranch, the program offers a simple way to show patriotism while directly supporting local students and families.
How the Conroe Tiger Band Flags With Pride Program Works
Subscribers receive a 10-foot pole with an American flag installed in their yard for six national holidays each year:
- Presidents’ Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Patriot’s Day
- Veterans Day
- Pearl Harbor Day
Members of the Conroe Tiger Band family — including students and parents — place the flags one to three days before each holiday and retrieve them shortly afterward.
The subscription year begins with Presidents’ Day in February and runs through Pearl Harbor Day in December. Organizers note that subscriptions are not prorated for residents who join after Presidents’ Day.
Once a resident signs up, organizers install a small sleeve near the curb below the grass line so it does not interfere with lawn maintenance. A small curb marker is also added to help volunteers identify placement locations during holiday distributions.
Why Programs Like Flags With Pride Matter in Communities Like Barton Creek Ranch
Beyond the patriotic display, programs like Flags With Pride help connect neighborhoods with local schools and student organizations in a meaningful way.
Fundraisers tied directly to student involvement often create a stronger sense of community ownership because residents can physically see the impact throughout their neighborhood. In this case, every flag displayed also represents support for band students participating in music education, competitions, performances and extracurricular opportunities.
According to the Conroe Tiger Band Boosters, proceeds from the fundraiser help provide students with experiences “they wouldn’t otherwise be afforded.”
The program also relies heavily on volunteers, with student families helping distribute flags across multiple neighborhood routes throughout the feeder zone.
What Residents in Barton Creek Ranch Should Know Before Signing Up
Organizers encourage residents to register early because the deadline for each holiday is two weeks prior to that holiday.
Residents who notice neighboring streets receiving flags before theirs should know that distributions are completed by multiple volunteer teams over several days leading up to each holiday. Volunteers are given a three-day window before and after holidays to complete installations and pickups while balancing school, work and family schedules.
If a resident does not receive their scheduled flag placement, organizers ask subscribers to notify the program by 5 p.m. CST the day before the holiday so volunteers can correct the issue.
Safety also remains a priority for the student volunteers. In cases of severe weather, hurricanes or dangerous conditions, flag placement may be delayed or canceled.
The organization notes this has only occurred a handful of times since the program launched more than a decade ago.
