Conroe ISD Named Best School District in Montgomery County for Fifth Consecutive Year by Niche

September 30 2025

For the fifth consecutive year, Conroe Independent School District has secured the title of Best School District in Montgomery County in the highly anticipated 2026 Niche Best School District Rankings. The announcement, made Monday, reflects Conroe ISD’s continued excellence in academics, athletics, teacher quality, and college preparation—areas where the district consistently ranks among the best in Texas and across the nation.

Niche, a leading platform for school and neighborhood rankings, also recognized Conroe ISD as the Best School District for Athletes in Montgomery County for the fourth year in a row, while placing the district among the top 10 school districts in the Greater Houston area. Nationally, CISD landed in the top 7% of school districts based on a variety of factors tied to student and teacher success.

The district earned an overall A grade, with standout ratings in academics, student activities, administration, and college readiness—all signs of a well-rounded educational experience for the more than 71,000 students who call Conroe ISD home.

Understanding Niche Rankings: What Sets Them Apart?

Niche’s annual rankings are widely viewed as one of the most comprehensive and trustworthy tools for evaluating public school systems across the country. Unlike rankings based purely on test scores, Niche uses a multi-factor methodologythat includes:

  • Academic performance and state test scores
  • College readiness indicators like SAT/ACT scores and AP participation
  • Quality of teachers and staff
  • Athletics and extracurricular opportunities
  • Parent and student reviews
  • District and school culture, including diversity and safety

The result is a holistic view of what it’s really like to attend or teach in a district—offering families a clear, comparative look when choosing where to live or enroll their children.

Conroe ISD’s Ongoing Commitment to Excellence

In recent years, Conroe ISD has become one of the fastest-growing districts in the state, and it has done so while retaining top talent, investing in teacher support systems, and prioritizing student-centered programs.

The district’s high marks in teacher quality and college prep are no accident. CISD leadership has made strategic efforts to recruit and retain top educators, while also providing rigorous coursework and a broad range of extracurriculars that prepare students for life beyond graduation.

Athletics also remain a strong suit. From powerhouse high school football teams to competitive district-wide sports programs, Conroe ISD continues to build student-athletes of character and skill—earning it the top spot for athletes in Montgomery County for the fourth year running.

Why It Matters to Local Families

Recognition from Niche isn’t just a trophy for the district—it’s a signal to families, educators, and homebuyers that Conroe ISD is one of the most sought-after districts in the region.
