Conroe ISD Approves 2026-2027 School Calendar: Here’s What’s New Compared to 2025-2026
At its meeting Tuesday evening, the Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees officially approved the 2026–2027 academic calendar, continuing a schedule that will feel familiar to many CISD families while making a few modest adjustments to dates and instructional time.
For a district that serves more than 70,000 students spread across 348 square miles of Montgomery County and neighboring areas, consistency matters. CISD’s footprint includes 39 elementary schools, 10 intermediate schools, 9 junior high schools, and 9 high schools, along with specialty campuses—meaning calendar decisions impact tens of thousands of households, as well as roughly 10,000 employees districtwide.
The new calendar sets the first day of school for students on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, one day earlier than the current 2025–2026 school year. The last day of school remains May 27, allowing the district to finish before Memorial Day once again. Teachers will report earlier, with their first workday on August 3, reflecting the district’s continued emphasis on preparation and professional learning ahead of the school year.

Instructional time stays largely in line with the current calendar. Students will attend 173 days of instruction, compared to 172 this year, while teachers will continue on a 187-day schedule. Grading periods remain structured the same, with the first semester ending December 18 and the second semester concluding at the end of May.
Holiday breaks—often one of the biggest considerations for families juggling work, childcare, and travel—also closely mirror the current year, with a few date shifts. Key student holidays and breaks for the 2026–2027 school year include:
- Labor Day: September 7
- Fall Break: October 9–12
- Student Holidays: November 2–3
- Thanksgiving Break: November 23–27
- Winter Break: December 21 – January 5
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day: January 18
- Student Holiday: February 12
- Presidents’ Day: February 15
- Spring Break: March 15–19
- Student Holidays: March 26 and April 30
- Memorial Day: May 31
Early release days for students are scheduled for December 18 and May 27, aligning with the ends of each semester.
As with previous years, the calendar also builds in professional learning days and teacher exchange days, giving educators time for training and collaboration without students on campus. An inclement weather makeup day is designated for March 29, offering flexibility should weather disruptions occur during the year.
For a district that continues to grow alongside communities like Conroe, The Woodlands, Oak Ridge, and surrounding areas, approving the calendar early helps families, staff, and campuses plan well in advance. While individual schools will communicate report card distribution dates and campus-specific events separately, the newly approved calendar provides a clear framework for the year ahead.
