Comal County Fair Week Celebrates a New Braunfels Tradition That Generations Call Their Own

September 21 2026

For many New Braunfels families, fair week is one of those dates that hardly needs an introduction. Livestock projects, carnival rides, rodeo nights and familiar faces at the fairgrounds have made the Comal County Fair & Rodeo a tradition shared across generations.

Comal County Commissioners Court formally recognized Sept. 21-27, 2026, as Comal County Fair Week on Sept. 24. This year's fair itself runs Sept. 23-27 at the Comal County Fairgrounds, 701 E. Common St. in New Braunfels.

A Weekend Built Around Comal County Traditions

Saturday, Sept. 26, is one of the fair's busiest days, with the grounds scheduled to remain open from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. The carnival runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., while the 31st Annual PRCA Rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m.

The fair's agricultural roots remain visible throughout the weekend. The livestock division runs Sept. 23-27, with young exhibitors and families participating in cattle, goat, lamb and other programs that remain an important part of the fair experience.

Sunday offers another community-focused element. The fair is partnering with S.O.S. Food Bank on a food drive in support of Hunger Action Month, and visitors are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations. Admission to the fairgrounds is free Sunday, according to the fair's published schedule.

One More Weekend to Make Fair Memories

The rodeo continues Sunday with Backyard Bull Riding beginning at 2 p.m., while the carnival is scheduled from noon to 10 p.m. Fair admission Sunday is free, although rodeo admission is ticketed separately.

For Comal County residents, the Commissioners Court proclamation recognizes something locals already know well: fair week occupies its own place on the community calendar. Whether a family comes for a livestock show, a carnival ride, the rodeo or simply an evening walking the grounds, there is still time to take part before the 2026 fair closes Sunday.
