Cinco Ranch’s Adriana Zambrano-Moreno Earns National Recognition at TSA STEM Competition
A standout student from Cinco Ranch High School in Katy ISD is making waves in STEM education after earning top honors at one of the nation’s most prestigious student technology competitions. Adriana Zambrano-Moreno, a rising senior with a deep passion for both innovation and teaching, placed 8th in the Future Technology & Engineering Teacher category at the 2025 National Technology Student Association (TSA) Conference, held this summer in Nashville, Tennessee.
Out of more than 200 entries and 10,000 competitors from across the U.S. and several countries, Zambrano-Moreno’s project on artificial intelligence rose to the top tier, earning her national finalist recognition in a competition that challenges students to think creatively, solve real-world problems, and present technical content with confidence and clarity.
“I would have never imagined that I would make it all the way to nationals when I first started brainstorming my lesson plan back in November of 2024,” Zambrano-Moreno reflected. “Becoming a finalist at the national level gave me an immense sense of satisfaction in the work I did, and being recognized was an incredible honor, but I think the journey itself and the growth I experienced along the way meant just as much.”

To reach the national stage, Adriana had to first craft an original, interactive lesson plan aligned with national science, math, and technology standards. Her project centered around the role of artificial intelligence in education and society. After advancing from initial rounds with strong written and video submissions, she delivered a live presentation and interview at the national conference.
Her performance not only showcased her growing expertise in STEM but also her passion for teaching and mentorship—a quality celebrated by her advisors. Cinco Ranch High School teachers Raf Villarreal, Shane Lalumandier, Kristin Rausch, Emily Gresham, and Rachelle Ferguson issued a joint statement saying:
“Adriana represented Cinco Ranch High School and Katy ISD with excellence at the National TSA Convention. She explored what it takes to succeed as a future technology teacher and demonstrated her ability to deliver STEM skills and concepts. We are incredibly proud of her dedication, perseverance and Cougar Pride!”

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national nonprofit organization of middle and high school students engaged in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). With over 250,000 members in 2,000+ schools, TSA competitions like the one Adriana participated in give students the opportunity to apply academic learning to hands-on projects while gaining leadership skills and professional experience. Each event is aligned to national STEM standards and designed to prepare students for careers in technology, engineering, and education.
Zambrano-Moreno plans to continue merging her interests in tech and creativity. With graduation on the horizon, she intends to pursue a double major in computer science and music, an academic combination that reflects her broader vision.
“I have always been fascinated by technology and how it can be used to make a positive impact, but at the same time, music has always been a big part of my life,” she said. “I hope to combine these two areas in ways that can help people and make the world a little better.”
Her story is a powerful reminder of how passion, preparation, and a commitment to growth can open doors—not only for future careers in STEM, but for students ready to inspire others along the way.
