Cinco Ranch Resident Scott Long Named President of Texas Benefits & Insurance Association

June 26 2025

For longtime Cinco Ranch resident Scott Long, advocating for others isn’t just a job — it’s been his life’s work. This July, that commitment takes on new weight as he steps into his role as President of the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals (NABIP-TX), a position that carries statewide influence over how Texans navigate healthcare, insurance, and employee benefits.

As CEO and founding partner of SOTA Benefits, a Katy-based firm serving employers of all sizes, Long has spent decades helping businesses design benefit programs that meet the real-world needs of their employees — whether that’s affordable health coverage, wellness plans, or navigating a maze of regulations. His election as president of NABIP-TX marks a personal achievement, but more importantly, it signals a year of opportunity for thousands of insurance professionals and the families and companies they serve.

“For me, NABIP-TX is important because it fosters continuous learning, professional growth, and meaningful connection,” Long said. “It’s a network of professionals who support one another through the challenges of a complex industry. It is a powerful legislative voice for both brokers and clients.”

Headquartered in Texas but linked to a national network, NABIP-TX represents nearly 2,000 agents, brokers, and benefits consultants across the state. These are the professionals behind the scenes helping employers choose insurance plans, ensuring employees understand their coverage, and advocating for sensible healthcare policy at the state and federal level.

Families across Katy, Cinco Ranch, and Texas feel the impact of Scott Long’s work every day, often without realizing it. When someone faces a medical emergency, navigates a new diagnosis, or tries to understand what their health insurance actually covers, it’s professionals like Long — and the systems he helps shape — that make the difference. His leadership ensures that insurance policies are not only accessible but designed with real people in mind, supporting both small business owners trying to care for their teams and individuals seeking peace of mind in uncertain times.

“What excites me is the opportunity to amplify the impact of NABIP-TX and help more professionals understand how essential this organization can be to their success,” Long said. “My goals for the coming term include empowering local chapters, modernizing NABIP’s offerings and strengthening the organization’s role in public policy.”

Long’s path to statewide leadership has been shaped by more than experience — it’s grounded in a belief that ethical, transparent advocacy can improve lives. His firm, SOTA Benefits, has long prioritized education and collaboration, helping clients navigate everything from compliance rules to mental health coverage. His leadership style, centered around relationships and innovation, is expected to steer NABIP-TX through a transformative year.

NABIP-TX offers much more than networking and education. It’s a frontline participant in shaping healthcare policy, hosting major events like the Capitol Conference and Day at the Capitol, where professionals engage directly with lawmakers. It also provides continuing education, legal resources, and programs like the Leading Producers Round Table to highlight outstanding service in the field.

“The vision is simple,” Long added. “To build a vibrant, indispensable association that not only advances our profession but elevates every member’s career.”

In an era where healthcare remains one of the most pressing — and often confusing — issues for American families and businesses, Long’s appointment brings local expertise to a statewide platform. It’s a reminder that strong leadership in often-overlooked industries can have a ripple effect far beyond the boardroom, impacting communities, classrooms, and kitchen tables.

As a Katy resident and business leader, Long’s presidency isn’t just a professional milestone — it’s a win for families, small business owners, and hardworking professionals across Texas who rely on clear, reliable access to healthcare and benefits.
