Cinco Ranch Branch Library to Host Marionette Show 'Sleeping Beauty & the Handsome Prince' on December 14

November 28 2024

The Youth Services department at Fort Bend County LibrariesCinco Ranch Branch Library will present a special marionette puppet show, “Sleeping Beauty & the Handsome Prince,” on Saturday, December 14, at 3:00 pm. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the library’s Meeting Room, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

Master puppeteer Jean Kuecher, producer of Marionette Playhouse, will bring the beloved fairy tale to life with her beautifully handcrafted marionettes. Designed for children and families, the performance will feature a captivating combination of elaborate stage settings, lighting, and music.

The story follows the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty with a twist. The Handsome Prince, aided by the Good Fairy, battles a fierce dragon conjured by the Wicked Witch. However, the prince forgets how to awaken the sleeping princess. With a little help from the audience, the prince may just remember and be able to reunite with Princess Sleeping Beauty.

"After the show, we encourage attendees to stay and learn some backstage secrets," said Kuecher. "It's always fun to give kids a glimpse into the magic behind the puppets and the performance."

The marionettes used in the show are intricately handcrafted by Kuecher herself. The puppets, each about one-third life-sized, are made with beautiful costumes and displayed on an elaborate set. Kuecher, who has extensive experience in education and puppetry, is a member of both the Puppeteers of America and the Greater Houston Puppetry Guild. She holds a master’s degree in education, Counseling, and Guidance from the University of Houston and has used puppetry to enhance classroom learning for many years.

Space for the performance is limited, and tickets will be required for entry. Tickets will be available starting one hour before showtime, and no late admittance will be allowed.

This special performance is made possible by the Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library.
