Christ Clinic's Talk Derby to Me Fundraiser

April 24 2022

Christ Clinic's Board of Directors is excited to announce its 2nd Annual Kentucky Derby themed fundraiser, Talk Derby To Me. This year’s event, presented by title sponsor Mitchell G. Rubin, CFP, will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Anthonies’ Market Grill in Simonton from 4:00 – 9:00 PM with a goal of raising $100,000.

This fun-filled evening will include dinner by Anthonie's, drinks, broadcast of the 148th Kentucky Derby, silent and live auction, raffle, cigar bar, whiskey and wine pull, live music by Lonestar Bluegrass Band and more! So ladies, put on your favorite spring dress and hat; men, don that seersucker suit and fedora to prepare for a good time. Remember to dress to impress! A derby party is all about style: pastels, crazy patterns and flamboyant hats.

Last year, thousands of patients benefited from nearly 10,000 medical visits to Christ Clinic. Fundraisers like Talk Derby To Me help make these visits possible. Without Christ Clinic, many of these patients would have forgone care, putting them at even greater risk of developing preventable diseases. Funds raised by Talk Derby To Me provide our patients with primary medical care, mental health services, wound care, medication assistance, health education, physical therapy and other health care services.

What does Christ Clinic do?

Christ Clinic serves low income uninsured and underinsured patients from across the Greater Houston Area. In 2019, the clinic served 6,448 individuals. Of those, 94% were Hispanic, 69% were female, and the median age was between 35 – 54 years. 98% percent live at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, equal to $51,500 for a family of four. The majority of Christ Clinics patients face complex barriers to health, including co-morbidity, and mental and behavioral health issues.

Last year, 166 individuals benefited from 594 mental health counseling sessions. Additionally, 67 patients, with more complex diagnosis, received case management services which helped to improve their health literacy and understanding of their care plans.

These patients also received referrals for behavioral health services and were provided access to much needed other social supports. Of the Christ Clinics patients surveyed in 2019, 90% report having improved health as a result of care.
