CFISD Students Launch NHS Olympics to Turn Friendly Rivalry Into Community Service
A new competition across CFISD is measuring success in volunteer hours. Eleven of the district’s 12 National Honor Society chapters are joining the inaugural NHS Olympics, bringing students together for a year of service and school pride.
Cypress Park NHS President Camila Araujo created the initiative. Each chapter submits its previous month’s volunteer hours, both on campus and in the community. Scores use average hours per member so chapter size does not determine the outcome.
Recognition beyond the leaderboard
The competition will recognize the top three schools, school spirit and two individual volunteers each semester. Student leaders also want members to discover service opportunities and build connections beyond their own campuses.
Participating chapters are Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek, Cypress Falls, Cypress Park, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Ridge, Cypress Springs, Cypress Woods, Jersey Village and Langham Creek.
At Cypress Springs, NHS President Louise Campo described difficulty finding volunteer opportunities. Sharing those opportunities across chapters is one way the initiative could help more students participate.
