About Maud Marks Branch Library

The Maud Smith Marks Branch Library, located at 1815 Westgreen Boulevard in Katy, was named in honor of Maud Smith Marks (1887-1970), a pioneer in providing library services to rural communities. Starting in the 1920s, Marks ran the first small County library in Barker, Texas, ensuring that local children had access to books by contracting with Harris County for book delivery. Her dedication to literacy and community service paved the way for the current Maud Smith Marks Branch, which officially opened its doors on July 27, 1993. Today, the library continues to honor her legacy by offering a wide range of programs and resources for the Katy community.
