Bridgeland HS Students Honored with National Merit Awards
Five hundred fifteen CFISD students were recognized as National Merit Scholars or College Board National Recognition Scholars and honored at a ceremony on March 20 at the Berry Center. Of those recognized, Cypress Ridge High School senior Yannick Mofor was confirmed as a finalist and 23 students from six high schools as semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Of nearly 1.5 million entrants to the National Merit Scholarship Program, approximately 50,000 qualify for recognition. Those honorees placed among the top percentage of students who entered the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
National Merit semifinalists from Bridgeland High School are Henry Hoover, Andrew Jung, Aditya Naidu, Catherine Pfaffenberger and Reid Zepeda.
NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The 23 semifinalists were among the approximately 16,000 throughout the U.S. selected by officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Finalists advance to have the opportunity to win one of approximately 7,250 Merit Scholarship awards, while roughly 800 outstanding participants who are not finalists are eligible for special scholarships. Semifinalists placed among the top 1 percent and Commended Students placed among the top 3 percent of about 1.6 million students who entered the Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). CFISD has 80 total Commended Students.

COLLEGE BOARD NATIONAL RECOGNITION PROGRAM
To create pathways to college for underrepresented students, the College Board National Recognition Program honors and recognizes high-achieving students who are African American or Black, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, or attend school in a rural area or small town. Those scholars who excelled on their PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10 or Advanced Placement Exams are encouraged to apply for academic recognition as part of the College Board National Recognition Program.
