Books-A-Million Celebrates Grand Opening in Cypress with Family-Friendly Festivities

November 13 2025

Northwest Harris County book lovers have a new chapter to celebrate. Books-A-Million (BAM!), the nation’s second-largest bookstore chain, is officially open in Cypress, with grand opening festivities set to welcome families, readers, and local leaders on Saturday, November 22nd. The new location, which soft opened on November 6, is located at 28640 US-290, Cypress, TX 77433, in the heart of Fairfield Town Center.

Offering a refreshing mix of literary discovery and community charm, the store’s arrival fills a long-missing niche for a full-service bookstore in the Cypress area—serving neighborhoods like Fairfield, Bridgeland, Dunham Pointe, and Hockley.

Grand Opening Highlights for Local Families

The celebration begins Monday, November 17 at 10:00 a.m. with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted in partnership with the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce. But the main event takes place on Saturday, November 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., when the store hosts a day of free, family-friendly festivities.

Guests can expect a festive mix of book-themed entertainment, including:

  • A face painter bringing popular book characters to life
  • A balloon artist crafting custom, literary-inspired creations
  • Complimentary BAM! tote bags and cookies for attendees (while supplies last)
  • Gift card drawings, including five $100 prizes and a $500 grand prize
  • A Holiday Book and Toy Drive benefiting local nonprofit Cy-Fair Helping Hands

“The only bookstore in the area”

Clarence Antill, Texas and Louisiana District Manager for Books-A-Million, says this Cypress location fills a meaningful gap in the local retail landscape.

“The Fairfield Town Center is situated snugly at the intersection of major highways, providing the only bookstore in the local vicinity,” said Antill. “The easy access appeals to those who crave that local charm and convenience. Books-A-Million has what other stores lack – expansive sections that encompass a wide genre of books and interests. We are excited for our local readers to experience the warmth and friendliness that comes with shopping at our location.”

A Modern Bookstore for Every Reader

The new 15,006-square-foot store features many of BAM’s signature departments, including one of the largest FaithPoint sections in the region, showcasing Christian literature and devotionals. It also offers an impressive Manga and Anime collection, BookTok-inspired recommendations, and trending lifestyle gifts such as PopMart products. A rotating bargain section and curated shelves for young readers round out the mix.

“Books-A-Million is constantly growing and expanding the product that we carry,” Antill added. “We have a variety of items, from an expansive Faithpoint shop to a constantly updated Booktok shop. We even have an entire area dedicated to those searching for a deal! We constantly update our social media when new product arrives so that our customers can stay in-the-know.”

A Resurgence of Brick-and-Mortar Bookstores in Greater Houston

The Cypress BAM! opening is part of a broader trend throughout Greater Houston, where the return of physical bookstores is gaining momentum. Alongside a new BAM! location in Richmond and other regional expansions by chains like Barnes & Noble, the resurgence reflects growing demand for community-based retail experiences that promote learning and leisure.

Industry reports by the American Booksellers Association and NPR have shown that bookstores are once again thriving, especially in suburban areas where families value educational spaces, screen-free zones, and the joy of in-person browsing. Fairfield Town Center’s strategic location along US-290 makes the store a convenient stop for commuters and residents alike.
