BATTLE OF THE BADGES: Fulshear Firefighters Turn Up the Heat in Friendly Blood Drive Showdown

July 02 2025

It’s fire versus police in a spirited showdown that could save lives across Greater Houston. The Fulshear Simonton Fire Department has officially answered the call from Fulshear Police, stepping into the ring for the 2025 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive—a fun and impactful way to donate blood in Fulshear—hosted in partnership with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.

From July 1–6, area residents can donate blood on behalf of either Team Fire or Team Police in a friendly competition that blends hometown pride with critical need. But Fulshear Simonton firefighters aren’t just playing to win—they’re playing to save lives.

“We’re coming in HOT and ready to win this Battle of the Badges,” reads the Fire Department’s rallying call, playfully jabbing their law enforcement neighbors. “Nice try, PD—you gotta be quicker than that!”

Blood Drive Details: Team Fire's Home Turf

To support Team Fire and donate blood in Fulshear, locals are encouraged to stop by the fire department’s central station at 33301 FM 1093, Fulshear, TX 77441 during their featured drive on Saturday, July 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Donations can also be made anytime between July 1–6 at participating Gulf Coast Blood Center locations—just be sure to declare your allegiance to Team Fire when you give.

In return, donors will receive:

  • A $25 eGift card (redeemable in the Donor Rewards Store)
  • A Gulf Coast Blood Center T-shirt
  • One general admission ticket to Dig World, the construction-themed adventure park

And for early donors giving blood between July 1–3, there's a bonus:

More Than Bragging Rights

While both departments are competing for community support and online bragging rights, the larger mission is clear: to boost blood donations during the critical summer months.

Every pint collected through the Battle of the Badges 2025 effort helps address ongoing blood shortages across the region. Donors from the Fulshear-Simonton area are being asked to rally around the fire department—not just to help Team Fire win, but to help save lives.

“Let’s rally together, Fulshear! Stand with your firefighters, save lives, and help us smoke the competition,” the department urged in their announcement.

The winning team will be recognized on the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s website and social media platforms.

About Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center

Founded in 1975, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center serves as a nonprofit organization committed to saving and sustaining lives through blood donations across more than 170 hospitals and health care institutions in the Texas Gulf Coast, Brazos Valley, and East Texas regions. With a mission to "partner with the community to help save and sustain lives by providing a safe supply of blood, biotherapies, and related services," the center operates daily collection sites and mobile drives like Battle of the Badges to meet an ever-present demand for blood and blood components.

Every day, the Blood Center must collect 1,000 donations to meet the needs of area patients—from trauma victims and cancer patients to those undergoing surgeries and organ transplants. A single blood donation can save up to three lives, yet fewer than 10% of eligible donors actually give blood. The need is especially urgent in the summer months, when donations typically decline due to travel and school breaks, but emergency situations and hospital demand remain constant.

These realities make events like Battle of the Badges not only vital, but lifesaving. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center continues to lead the charge by mobilizing local communities to roll up their sleeves—and make a measurable difference.
