Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office Invites Community to Save Lives at July 8 Blood Drive in Jourdanton

June 19 2026

For many local families, summer means vacations, ball games, and time spent with loved ones. It also brings a seasonal challenge that often goes unnoticed: a decline in blood donations at a time when hospitals continue to rely on a steady supply of lifesaving blood products.

To help meet that need, the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office will host a community blood drive on Wednesday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in a South Texas Blood & Tissue bloodmobile parked at the Sheriff’s Office, located at 1108 Campbell Avenue in Jourdanton.

The event offers local residents an opportunity to support patients across South Texas while helping ensure hospitals have the blood they need for emergency care, surgeries, cancer treatments, and other critical medical procedures.

A Small Act That Can Have a Big Impact

Blood donations remain one of the most direct ways community members can help save lives. Every day, hospitals depend on volunteer donors to maintain an adequate blood supply for patients facing unexpected emergencies and ongoing medical conditions.

Summer months can be particularly challenging for blood centers as regular donation routines are disrupted by travel schedules, school breaks, and seasonal activities. Community blood drives like the one being held in Jourdanton help replenish local blood inventories and ensure patients continue receiving the care they need.

For Atascosa County residents, the event also provides a chance to support neighbors and families throughout the region who may someday depend on a blood transfusion.

Donors Receive a Movie Night Thank You

Adding a fun twist to the community service effort, donors who participate in the July 8 blood drive will receive a Santikos bundle that includes two free movie tickets, courtesy of South Texas Blood & Tissue.

The promotion is part of the organization's "Movie Night Blood Drive" campaign, designed to encourage donations during a time of year when blood supplies are often strained.

While the movie tickets provide a bonus for participants, organizers emphasize that the true reward is knowing a single donation can help multiple patients in need.

How to Schedule an Appointment

Residents are encouraged to reserve a donation time in advance to help ensure a smooth experience.

Appointments can be scheduled online at:

Individuals with questions about blood donation eligibility can contact South Texas Blood & Tissue at 210-731-5590. According to event information, individuals who are 16 years old may be eligible to donate with parental consent.

What Happens Next

As communities across Texas continue to grow, maintaining a reliable blood supply remains a shared responsibility. Events like the upcoming blood drive at the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office demonstrate how local organizations can come together to address critical healthcare needs while strengthening community connections.

For residents looking for a meaningful way to give back this summer, July 8 offers an opportunity to spend less than an hour making a difference that could last a lifetime.
