Aldine ISD’s New $104 Million Education and Performing Arts Center Aims to Transform Student Arts Opportunities in North Houston
As communities across North Houston continue to grow, Aldine ISD is making a major investment not just in buildings, but in creativity, student opportunity and community connection.
The district’s planned Education and Performing Arts Center (EdPAC), a new $104 million facility set for construction along Aldine Westfield Road, is expected to become one of the largest and most advanced arts-focused educational spaces in the region when it opens in 2028.
The approximately 120,000-square-foot center will serve as a districtwide hub for performing and visual arts, giving Aldine ISD students access to professional-level spaces for theater productions, music performances, dance instruction and art exhibitions. District leaders say the project is designed to create a central gathering place where students, families and the broader community can experience the arts together.
Located at 15011 Aldine Westfield Road near major transportation corridors including Beltway 8, Interstate 45 and the Hardy Toll Road, the new facility is strategically positioned to improve accessibility for families across the district and surrounding North Houston communities.
A Major Investment in Student Creativity and Community Identity
For many families, school arts programs are about far more than performances on stage. They create opportunities for students to build confidence, discover talents, develop discipline and find a sense of belonging.
The Aldine ISD Education and Performing Arts Center is expected to significantly expand those opportunities by providing modern spaces designed specifically for arts education and large-scale productions.
Plans for the facility include:
- A 1,200-seat main auditorium featuring a full fly loft, orchestra pit and advanced acoustical treatments
- A 400-seat mini theater for smaller productions and events
- A flexible 200-seat black box theater designed for teaching and experimental performances
- Two dance studios with specialized flooring
- Large ensemble rehearsal rooms for music programs
- Two visual arts galleries for student and community exhibitions
- Administrative and operational support spaces
Together, the spaces are intended to support a wide range of artistic disciplines while also giving students experience in professional-style performance environments.
The project is currently in the schematic design phase, with construction expected to begin Aug. 31, 2026, and completion targeted for July 2028.
More Than a School Facility
While the center will primarily support Aldine ISD students and programs, projects like this often become important community assets as well.
Across the Houston area, performing arts centers attached to school districts increasingly serve as venues for graduations, concerts, community events, cultural celebrations and regional performances. The Aldine ISD EdPAC is expected to play a similar role by creating a shared gathering space for residents throughout the district.
The development also reflects a broader trend among growing Texas school districts to invest in fine arts education alongside academics and athletics, recognizing the long-term value arts programs bring to student achievement and community engagement.
With multiple studios, galleries and theaters planned under one roof, the facility is designed to give students exposure to music, theater, dance and visual arts at a scale many public school systems historically could not provide.
What Happens Next
The Aldine ISD Education and Performing Arts Center remains in the early design stages, with additional planning and development work expected ahead of construction later next year.
Once complete, the facility is expected to become a landmark destination for student performances and arts education in North Houston, while also serving as a visible reflection of the district’s continued growth and investment in future generations.
Residents can expect additional updates as the project advances toward groundbreaking and eventual opening in 2028.
