A Legacy of Service Continues: Bryon Woytec Appointed Interim Chief of Police for Katy Police Department
At the City of Katy City Council executive session this evening, Bryon Woytec was officially appointed as the interim Chief of Police for the City of Katy. This news was made public by Chris Harris, City of Katy Councilmember At-Large through social media.
A 30-year veteran of the Katy Police Department and Katy native, Woytec has deep roots in the local community. Starting his career in 1994 as a patrol officer, Woytec quickly progressed to the role of K-9 Handler in the patrol division, working alongside his K-9 Patrol/Narc Dog. By 1999, his dedication and expertise earned him the title of Patrol Sergeant, and a decade later, he stepped into the position of Patrol Captain.
Woytec has also expanded his police and leadership skills through academic pursuit. In 2010, he graduated from the FBI National Academy, specializing in Police Management and Leadership.
Bryon Woytec will be taking over the position from Chief J. Noe Diaz. Diaz served as Chief of Police for the Katy Police Department since March of 2019, earning a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Katy for his service.

Before joining the Katy Police Department, Diaz held a variety of positions in law enforcement. Working everywhere from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to the Narcotics Division of the State Police, Diaz has compiled over 6,800 law enforcement (TCOLE) training hours. Along with his on-the-job experience, Diaz holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston-Downtown, a Master's degree in Criminology from Lamar University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and FBI Texas Command College.
Even while stepping into his new role, Woytec will be following in Diaz's footsteps, as Diaz was recently named as Houston's next Chief of Police by Mayor John Whitmire on August 2, 2024.
As Woytec begins his tenure as interim Police Chief, he brings not only a wealth of experience and knowledge, but also a dedication and commitment to the community he has served for over three decades.
