YMCA’s Lemonade Day Teaches Kids Business Skills While Raising Funds for Summer Camp Scholarships in Copperfield
This week, the Langham Creek Family YMCA in Copperfield is turning lemons into life-changing opportunities through Lemonade Day, a week-long, hands-on program that gives children a taste of entrepreneurship while helping raise funds for YMCA Summer Camp scholarships across the Greater Houston area.
Running from May 6 through May 10, the initiative involves after-school participants who are learning to operate their very own lemonade stands—developing real-world skills like budgeting, customer service, marketing, and teamwork. But this sweet project has a purpose far beyond profit.
“All proceeds go toward scholarships for YMCA Summer Camp,” the organization shared. “For every $200 raised, a youth or teen will gain the opportunity to enjoy this experience.”
Lemonade Day: A National Program with Local Impact
Lemonade Day is a national experiential learning program designed to teach children how to start, own, and operate their own small business—a lemonade stand. Since its inception in 2007, the program has inspired hundreds of thousands of young entrepreneurs nationwide by fostering a mindset of possibility and leadership.
In Greater Houston, the YMCA has embraced Lemonade Day not only as an educational tool, but also as a powerful fundraising opportunity to ensure that no child misses out on the enriching experience of summer camp due to financial hardship.

Each YMCA After School location in the region, including Langham Creek, has set a goal to raise $1,000 during the campaign. The funds will directly support the YMCA of Greater Houston’s goal of awarding $350,000 in summer camp scholarships this year. At just $200 per camper, every glass of lemonade sold could bring a child closer to making memories, building friendships, and gaining confidence in a supportive camp environment.
More Than Just a Summer Camp
The YMCA of Greater Houston has long been a pillar of community support, offering programs that go far beyond fitness. From after-school care and youth development to family wellness and financial assistance, the Y’s mission is rooted in accessibility, equity, and opportunity for all.
Summer Day Camps hosted by the YMCA provide children with safe, active, and educational environments where they can thrive. These programs include STEM activities, arts and crafts, swimming, field trips, and leadership development—all critical components in bridging the gap during summer months when school is out and resources may be limited.
