What Are Those Red Barrels at Grocery Stores?
Have you noticed Red Barrels at grocery stores in our community? Cy-Fair Helping Hands, in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, collects nonperishable donations from specific grocery stores on a weekly basis. What could be more convenient?
Sadly, in recent months, save for discarded scratch off tickets and trash, these barrels have mostly been empty. By adding a few items to your grocery carts and placing them in these Red Barrels, you can easily and conveniently help CFHH's pantry clients while you shop!
Cy-Fair Helping Hands is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 to help the homeless of Cy-Fair become self-sufficient. Programs include provision of Emergency Shelter for families with children, scholarships for unprivileged students, Homeless Street Outreach, a Homeless Day Center, programs for CFISD students, and events and programs during the holidays and at back-to-school time. CFHH asks that nonperishable donations be current dated, (not expired), and secured in plastic grocery bags. The barrels are rather deep, so bags with handles are helpful! Large donations may be dropped off at 9606 Kirkton Drive, Houston, 77095, between 9:00 AM and 12:15 PM, Monday through Thursday, and on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Cy-Fair Helping Hands' Red Barrels can be found at the following local grocery stores:
