Wells ES Student to Represent CFISD and Greater Houston Area at Scripps National Spelling Bee
Wells Elementary School fifth grade student Vir Lagad placed third at the Houston Community College Regional Spelling Bee on March 23 and will represent CFISD and the Greater Houston area at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Lagad correctly spelled the word yagi in the ninth round to secure a spot in the national bee. Yagi is a type of directional antenna consisting of two or more parallel antenna elements in an end-fire array.
“This has been a fun journey so far,” Lagad said. “I’m very happy and proud to represent CFISD and Wells at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.”
Lagad won the 2024 CFISD Elementary School Spelling Bee by correctly spelling the word nucleated in the ninth round and qualified for the regional bee.
“We are incredibly proud of Vir for his outstanding achievement at the Houston Community College Regional Bee,” said Stephanie Fields, CFISD Elementary Spelling Bee coordinator. “His dedication and hard work have earned him a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington D.C. area. We wish him the very best of luck!”
The Scripps National Spelling Bee will be held May 26 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. The national bee will feature more than 200 spellers from across the country and around the world.
