Panera Bread in Cypress Closes Abruptly as Franchise Files for Bankruptcy
Once a daily stop for commuters and families in the Cypress area, the Panera Bread café at 26003 Northwest Fwy, Cypress, TX 77429 is now permanently closed. The sudden shutdown came in early August and is part of a broader wave of closures across Greater Houston.
The location was operated by EYM Café of Texas LLC, a franchise group that has fallen into serious financial and legal trouble. On August 2, 2025, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas, listing millions in outstanding debt and less than $50,000 in total assets.

According to public records, Panera LLC had terminated EYM’s franchise agreement before the bankruptcy was filed, also launching a lawsuit alleging unpaid royalties, food safety issues, and improper use of the Panera brand. In the wake of these actions, all 15 Panera cafés operated by EYM in the Houston area were ordered to shut down and remove Panera signage.
The Cypress café’s closure caught many by surprise, particularly given its location along a busy corridor that serves both residential and commercial areas. For many in Villages of Cypress Lakes, BlackHorse Ranch, and nearby subdivisions, it was a familiar spot for casual meals and morning coffee.
Residents looking for an alternative can visit the fully operational Panera Bread café at7049 Hwy 6, Houston, TX 77095 in Copperfield, which continues to serve the full Panera menu.
