Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Houston Wing will host the popular Warbird Weekend at their museum at the West Houston Airport April 30thand May 1st. The B-17 Texas Raiders, along with the B-25 Mitchell Devil Dog, P-51 Mustang and replica Japanese Zeros from the TORA TORA TORA performance unit will all be in attendance.  Various other WWII warbirds will also be on display and available for public flights.  Visiting aircraft will offer cockpit tours for the entire weekend.

Texas Raiders is one only 4 of B-17’s currently flying in the United States and has been recognized as a very authentically restored Flying Fortress.  The aircraft has been restored to wartime configuration by a group of dedicated CAF volunteers, and bristles with machine guns and authentic equipment.

For the past 19 years, Warbird Weekend (formerly known as Open House) has emerged as one of the most entertaining annual World War II and 1940s themed events in Houston. It is a can’t-miss experience for anyone who enjoys nostalgia, historic aircraft, military vehicles, and antique cars.  Families will also enjoy reenactors from the 6thCavalry in authentic uniforms with restored ground vehicles and an anti-aircraft gun mount from the Battleship Texas. Local artist Maria Thorne will perform Big Band standards from the 1940s on both days.  Warbird Weekend is an excellent way to honor the heroes of the Greatest Generation and people of educate all ages about the WWII experience and the technology of aviation.
The admission fee is $20 per car at the gate.  Proceeds from the event help fund facility operations and the restoration and operation of the Houston Wing aircraft.
