Two Teachers to Represent CFISD in Region 4 Recognition Program

Woodard Elementary School art teacher Tanya Gantiva and Cypress Falls High School culinary arts teacher Jean Chiriboga were selected as Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s teachers of the year and will represent the district at regional and statewide competitions for top teaching honors. 

Both Gantiva and Chiriboga were selected as the Teacher of the Year at their respective campuses, and will be recognized at the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) Salute to the Stars ceremony on March 9.

Gantiva was chosen as the CFISD Elementary Teacher of the Year.

“The arts create a space where students can be curious and take charge of their learning. It can transform and heal individuals,” Gantiva said. “I pride myself in creating this space that forms artists, leaders and explorers in our community. I am honored to represent a district that advocates for the arts and art education.”
 

Chiriboga was chosen as the CFISD Secondary Teacher of the Year.

“My core beliefs in education are respect and responsibility. I strive to achieve that in my classroom and on my campus,” Chiriboga said. “The recognition of this is overwhelming, humbling and appreciated. I feel blessed to be a life-long educator and to do so in such a respected and supportive district. I am thankful to all my current and past students and colleagues who helped shape me into the educator I am today.”
 

Gantiva and Chiriboga will be honored on Aug. 1 at the 34th annual Region 4 Education Service Center Teachers of the Year Ceremony at the Hilton Americas. Gantiva and Chiriboga will be candidates for Region 4 Teacher of the Year. Six finalists are chosen from the 40 regional winners and a Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year are selected. One is then chosen to represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year program.
