Tomball West High School Set to Open Its Doors as Tomball ISD Begins a New Chapter in Northwest Harris County

July 15 2026

As Tomball ISD continues to experience rapid enrollment growth, a new campus is preparing to welcome its first students—and the community is invited to celebrate the milestone before the school year begins.

The district will officially open Tomball West High School with a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Monday, July 27, at 9 a.m. at 17803 Cypress Heights Drive in Cypress. The event offers families, students, staff and community members an opportunity to tour the district's newest campus and celebrate what district leaders describe as the beginning of a new chapter for Tomball ISD.

For many families throughout northwest Harris County and the greater Tomball area, the opening represents more than just another school building. It is part of the district's long-term strategy to accommodate continued population growth while preserving the educational opportunities, extracurricular experiences and campus culture that have helped make Tomball ISD one of the region's most sought-after public school districts.

A New High School Built for a Growing District

Funded through Tomball ISD's 2021 bond program, Tomball West High School is a $195.6 million, 545,525-square-foot campus situated on a 68-acre educational complex in Cypress. The site was master planned to include a future educational village featuring a junior high school, elementary school and agricultural science barn.

When classes begin in August 2026, the school will initially serve ninth- and tenth-grade students before expanding to all four high school grade levels by the 2028-29 school year. At full buildout, the campus is expected to serve approximately 3,000 students.

According to Tomball ISD's enrollment forecast, the addition of Tomball West High School will provide the district with sufficient capacity to accommodate continued enrollment growth through at least the 2030-31 school year, helping relieve enrollment pressures at Tomball High School and Tomball Memorial High School.

Designed Around Flexible Learning

Developed through a collaboration between Tomball ISD, architecture firm Huckabee, School Specialty and Houston-based engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam (LAN), the campus was intentionally designed to support evolving instructional models rather than traditional classroom layouts.

Flexible classrooms, collaborative learning commons, specialized Career and Technical Education (CTE) labs, fine arts facilities and technology-rich learning environments are integrated throughout the building to support students preparing for college, careers and military service.

At the center of the campus is a reimagined library that functions as a collaborative hub featuring adaptable seating, research areas, gathering spaces and technology designed to encourage creativity, innovation and student engagement throughout the day.

"Seeing the project come together so thoughtfully is especially meaningful because, at its heart, this was about creating spaces that will inspire the community for years to come," said Veronica Fuentes, Learning Environment Specialist at School Specialty. "By working closely with the district leadership and Huckabee's design team, we were able to map the right functional solutions to the district's long-term educational goals."

Huckabee Principal Caitlin Munch said the design team focused on creating learning environments that reflect Tomball ISD's vision for educational excellence.

"From the earliest stages of design, our team worked closely with Tomball ISD to create a campus that reflects the district's vision for Destination Excellence. We wanted every learning environment, from classrooms and CTE labs to the library and collaborative commons, to inspire curiosity, creativity and connection," Munch said. "Seeing those spaces come to life with furnishings that reinforce flexibility and student engagement has been incredibly rewarding, and we're proud to have partnered with School Specialty and the district to create a campus that will serve students for generations."

Designed With Community in Mind

Beyond academics, the campus was carefully planned to enhance both safety and accessibility.

Its classical architectural style establishes a unified appearance for future district facilities while reinforcing Tomball ISD's long-term design vision. Separate entrances for athletics and performing arts create clear wayfinding for visitors, while pedestrian pathways connect academic buildings with athletic facilities across the property.

Campus planners also prioritized traffic circulation, parking and transportation access to help improve student safety during daily arrivals, dismissals and community events.

Athletic practice fields are positioned along Cypress Heights Drive, while competition venues are located farther into the campus, balancing visibility with efficient site circulation.

Experienced Leadership From Day One

Leading the new campus will be Kevin Williams, who was selected as the inaugural principal of Tomball West High School.

Williams brings more than 30 years in education, including 19 years with Tomball ISD. Before taking on the role, he served as principal of Willow Wood Junior High and previously held leadership positions at both Tomball High School and Tomball Memorial High School. He was also named Tomball ISD Secondary Principal of the Year for 2023-24.

District leaders have cited his student-centered leadership, collaborative approach and experience in secondary education as key factors in helping establish the traditions, culture and academic excellence of the district's third comprehensive high school.

"The opening of Tomball West High School reflects the power of strong partnerships and a shared commitment to student success," said Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora, Superintendent of Tomball ISD. "School Specialty worked closely with our district and design teams to help bring our vision to life, creating flexible, student-centered learning environments that support collaboration, innovation and engagement. Together, we have developed a campus that will inspire learning and provide exceptional opportunities for students for years to come."

What Happens Next

Following the July 27 celebration, Tomball West High School will welcome its inaugural class of freshmen and sophomores when the 2026-27 school year begins in August. The campus will continue expanding grade levels over the next two academic years until becoming a full four-year comprehensive high school during the 2028-29 school year.

For Tomball ISD families, the opening marks another significant investment in the district's future—creating additional capacity while providing students with modern learning spaces designed to support academic achievement, career readiness, athletics, fine arts and community engagement for decades to come.
