Tomball Lions Club Visits Texas Lions Camp
On June 16, representatives from the Tomball Lions Club were at Texas Lions Camp for the Scholarship Graduation Awards at the conclusion of camp week, which was held from June 12 through June 16. Although the awards ceremony was cancelled due to the weather, Tomball Lions Club representatives took a long overdue tour of Texas Lions Camp. They were given a tour by guides Taylor Schofield, Adventure Programming Activity Leader and Rebecca Bates, Waterfront Activity Leader. They showed the Tomball Lions Club representatives where the kids live and activities that they are involved with, such as the camp lake where the kids love to catch fish. The camp hosts many other activities including horseback riding and rock climbing.
The Tomball Lions Club representatives were also taken to the Frontier Village where they saw the honorary bench donated by the Tomball Lions Club to honor Luke Luedke, who is a major benefactor of the Tomball Lions Club. The Luke Luedke Fund allows the Tomball Lions Club to touch so many lives in the Tomball Community and Texas Lions Camp.
The Luke Luedke Foundation recognized the Tomball Lions Club by making a generous grant to the Club in the prior Lion Year. His grant was made after witnessing the Club's donations and volunteer work to aid individuals with various needs. In recognition of the grant and its intended use to further the Club's assistance to community individuals, the Tomball Lions Club made a donation to the Texas Lions Camp. The donation has been recognized by placement of an honorary bench in the new Frontier Village at the Texas Lions Camp.
Since 1953, more than 79,000 children with physical disabilities and Type 1 diabetes have discovered the delights of camp at Texas Lions Camp. Attendees experience the exhilaration of learning to swim, and develop the desire to improve themselves. Most importantly, campers are afforded the opportunity to forget about their disabilities during the magic of camp. To learn more about Texas Lions Camp, please visit lionscamp.com.
