Tomball ISD Opens Early Excellence Academy for Pre-K Learners

September 06 2023

With the 2023-2024 school year off to a great start, Tomball ISD celebrated the opening of its first ever Pre-K Center, the new Early Excellence Academy, during a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“Early Excellence Academy is truly a magical place,” said Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora, Superintendent of Schools. “I’m so proud of this project, and how every detail, and every creative thought came to life to make this a one-of-a-kind learning experience for our youngest learners. Being able to provide a dedicated space for our students to jumpstart their educational journey with us was important for our community, and those we serve, and I’m thankful we had the endless support from our dedicated School Board throughout this journey to make this happen.”

Early Excellence Academy is the 23rd campus to open in Tomball ISD, and can serve up to 500 students. As the first Pre-Kindergarten Center in the District, EEA is located in the heart of Tomball off Keefer Rd. In order for one to qualify for attendance at the Early Excellence Academy and TISD Pre-K programs, a student must be 4 years old on or before September 1 and meet state qualifications to attend. Sporting the mascot, Cubs, EEA is led by Principal Jessica Perez and Assistant Principals Kathy Standefer and Debbie Lauersdorf.

“On Keefer Rd in downtown Tomball, right next to one of the oldest campuses in the ISD, we have established our newest campus for our youngest learners,” said Board President Lee McLeod on behalf of the School Board. “Once again, we are proud to say that children are at the heart of this town and its continued success. We are supremely thankful for the folks who made the dream a reality. From the community who supports Tomball ISD in many ways, to the architects, the construction workers, and an array of other trades, our newest facility is a testament to the community's investment in the future of TISD.”

The new facility showcases a unique array of colors, and a theme like no other.

"The building’s design is truly unique and gorgeous," said Jessica Perez, EEA Principal. "Its vibrant colors, spatial arrangement, and integration with the natural surroundings contribute to an enriching school atmosphere. Furthermore, every hallway features a uniquely designed collaborative space, facilitating a smooth transition from classroom instruction to a wonderland workspace!"

Whether you are under the sea, enjoying plant life, atop a tree, soaring through the clouds or expanding one’s imagination in space, Tomball ISD students will be immersed in a place full of magic and vibrancy all while developing a love for learning and a love for reading.

"Early Excellence Academy serves the youngest learners in the district," said Perez. "Their first school experience gets to take place in an environment designed around a play allowing students to engage in exploration, engagement, curiosity through the development of vital skills."

Emphasized at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was the overwhelming support by the Tomball community with representatives from LAN, Division One Construction and DLR Group as well as the Tomball ISD Board of Trustees, Leadership Team, and Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce.
