Tomball German Heritage Festival 2026 Returns to Old Town March 27–29 with Free Admission, Live Music and 150+ Vendors
For many Tomball families, the last weekend in March is more than just another date on the calendar — it is a tradition rooted in heritage, music and community pride. The semiannual Tomball German Heritage Festival returns March 27–29, 2026, transforming Old Town Tomball into one of the largest German heritage festivals in Texas.
With free admission, free parking and a free shuttle, the three-day event invites residents and visitors alike to celebrate the rich German roots that helped shape Tomball beginning in the 1840s. Whether attending for the live music, the open-air market, traditional contests or simply to gather with neighbors, the festival continues to reflect the identity of this growing community.
A Celebration of German Heritage in the Heart of Tomball
Held at 201 S. Elm Street in Old Town Tomball, near the Historical Train Depot Plaza, the Tomball German Heritage Festival stretches across Market Street and surrounding downtown streets. Antique shops, local businesses and street vendors become part of the experience, creating an atmosphere organizers describe as Gemütlichkeit — a welcoming, family-friendly ambience centered on shared joy.
The festival runs:
- Friday, March 27 | 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
- Saturday, March 28 | 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
- Sunday, March 29 | 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday’s festivities include the festival’s traditional “tapping of the keg” at 10:30 a.m., along with the Willkommen ceremony honoring German exchange students and their Tomball host families and the official opening ceremonies.
Organizers emphasize that you do not have to be German to enjoy the celebration. What began sixteen years ago with a single Oompah band on a flat-bed trailer has grown into a major music and street festival featuring four live music stages, more than 30 entertainers and over 150 unique street vendors.
What to Expect: Music, Market and More
Visitors can explore:
- German heritage items and souvenirs
- Arts and crafts
- Antiques
- Festival and ethnic food
- Beer and wine (beer sales are cash only)
- Carnival attractions
- Street performers and strolling musicians
The popular “Weihnachtshaus” inside the Tomball Community Center at 221 Market Street, at the corner of Cherry Street, will once again offer German clothing and souvenirs for sale.
The entertainment line-up will be released March 20, 2026, but attendees can expect a mix of traditional German music and lively performances across multiple stages, including the Warsteiner Party Stage and Ziegenbock Wiesn.

More Than a Festival: A Community Tradition
The Tomball German Festivals are hosted twice annually and sponsored by the Tomball/Telgte Sister City Organization. The group works year-round to organize performances and events that bring together neighbors, friends and visitors.
Tomball’s German Christmas Market has even earned national recognition from travelmag.com as one of the “20 Best Christmas Markets in the U.S.” — a nod to the care and community spirit that organizers pour into these events year after year.
At its core, the spring festival is a tribute to the German families who first settled here in the 1840s. As Tomball grows and welcomes new neighbors, gatherings like this help keep those roots visible, reminding residents where the community began and why its heritage still matters today.

Honoring a Founder’s Legacy
The festival also carries forward the vision of founder Grady Martin, whose dedication to building a connected community helped shape the event into what it is today.
In his memory, supporters are invited to contribute to the Grady Martin Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to students pursuing German language studies, international education or exchange opportunities. Contributions can be made here.

What Happens Next
As March 27 approaches, organizers encourage residents to make plans early — whether volunteering, entering a contest, shopping the market or simply enjoying live music with family and friends.
For Tomball homeowners, small businesses and longtime residents, the Tomball German Heritage Festival is more than a weekend event. It is a reminder of where the city began and how traditions continue to bring people together.
