For families looking for educational summer activities in Spring, Texas, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is preparing to open a season filled with color, creativity and hands-on experiences designed to inspire visitors of all ages.

Beginning June 13, the Spring-based museum will launch its 2026 summer programming lineup, featuring new exhibitions, interactive art experiences, Summer Art Camps, author presentations and the return of its popular Wild Art Wednesdays series. With free admission and family-focused programming, the Pearl continues its mission of making fine arts accessible to the greater Houston community.

Located at 6815 Cypresswood Drive, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts has become a cultural cornerstone for Northwest Harris County since opening its doors in 2008. Born from community support and housed in a former county library transformed through local generosity, the museum has welcomed more than 200,000 visitors and presented more than 50 exhibitions. Today, the museum extends its reach through partnerships with schools, community organizations and educational programs that bring art beyond its walls.

New Summer Exhibitions Open June 13

The centerpiece of the museum's summer season is "Chromatica: A World in Color," an original exhibition filling the Main Gallery with works organized around the concept of a color wheel.

The exhibition brings together paintings, textiles, sculptures and other artistic forms from artists and lending institutions across Texas as well as Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Louisiana, Ohio, Virginia and Mexico. Designed to explore the universal language of color, the exhibition invites visitors to experience how color shapes emotion, culture and artistic expression.

Among the featured works is Haiku with Red by artist Bette Ridgeway, a striking acrylic painting that reflects the exhibition's colorful theme.

For residents searching for art exhibitions near Spring, Texas, or family-friendly museums in the Houston area, "Chromatica" offers an opportunity to experience a wide variety of artistic styles and perspectives in one setting.

Hands-On Creativity in the Maker Space

Complementing the exhibition is an interactive Maker Space designed to encourage exploration through play and creativity.

Families can enjoy craft stations, a LEGO® build station, sound and light panels and other hands-on activities that connect directly to the themes explored in "Chromatica."

The Maker Space is sponsored by AAUW North Harris County Branch, with additional support from Houston Brick Club, Bricks & Minifigs Spring and Bricks & Minifigs Tomball.

The interactive area is expected to be a popular destination for children and families throughout the summer, offering opportunities to learn through experimentation and artistic discovery.

Curtis Gannon Exhibition Opens in Cole Gallery

In addition to the Main Gallery exhibition, visitors can explore "Fragments, Remnants, and Remains" by artist Curtis Gannon in the Cole Gallery.

Gannon's work draws inspiration from a lifelong fascination with comic books and animation. Beginning with small collages, his creative process evolves into drawings, paintings and sculptures that recreate memories, emotions and personal experiences.

The exhibition provides a different perspective on storytelling through visual art while complementing the broader themes of creativity and imagination featured throughout the museum this summer.

Both summer exhibitions will remain on view through Sept. 5.

Author and Illustrator Steven Weinberg Visits the Pearl

Families will also have an opportunity to meet award-winning author, illustrator and painter Steven Weinberg during a free Artist Talk on June 19.

Scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the museum's Main Gallery, the presentation will feature discussions from Weinberg's books What is Color and I Am the Mountain.

Known for creating books for both children and adults, Weinberg has led workshops at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and appeared at numerous literary and arts festivals.

The event is open to all ages. Admission is free, though reservations are requested through the museum's website.

Summer Art Camps Inspire Young Artists

Beginning June 16 and continuing through July 31, the Pearl's Summer Art Camps will provide young artists with opportunities to develop their skills while exploring different artistic styles and techniques.

Weekly camps are available for children ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 13, with half-day and full-day options offered Tuesday through Friday.

Themes include Masterpiece Remix, Under the Sea, Hyperrealism and Splatter Studio. Students enrolled in full-day camps will also work with guest artists during special Friday sessions.

Camp participants will spend time exploring the museum's galleries, drawing inspiration from "Chromatica: A World in Color" before creating their own artwork in studio classrooms.

For many local families, the camps provide a unique combination of art education, creativity and cultural enrichment during the summer months.

Wild Art Wednesdays Return

Another summer tradition returns June 17 with the launch of Wild Art Wednesdays.

Held every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Aug. 12, the free program offers guided art activities for children and families.

This year's theme, "Women Crush Wednesdays," celebrates influential women artists through hands-on projects inspired by their work and artistic contributions.

Participants can reserve a 20-minute time slot through the museum's website.
