TMHS Wildcat Theatre Inspiring Creativity and Excelling at all Levels
Tomball Memorial High School Theatre leads by inspiring creativity in its students through classroom engagement all while instilling confidence through unique educational experiences.
Whether it is through the Educational Theatre Association or the program’s commitment to excellence as part of The International Thespian Society, TMHS students, led by TMHS Theatre Director Bryce Ballew and Assistant Director Toby Drake, continue to excel at the state and national level.
Tomball Memorial High School is a National Honor Troupe as part of The International Thespian Society, which promotes the arts all around the world and strives for student achievement in theatre. As an Honor Troupe, TMHS takes about 50 students each year to the organization’s Thespian State Conference. From there, students have the opportunity to compete for scholarships both in individual and group events, audition for colleges, attend workshops, and learn from professionals and one another. The State Festival in the Fall of 2023 had over 9,000 attendees.
In fact, TMHS not only is a National Honor Troupe but is fortunate enough to have a student elected to its State Board. TMHS student Kellen Highfield serves as a State Officer, elected once again this year. Through peer voting and through an educator selection committee, Kellen is part of the Student State Board of Directors and has the unique opportunity to lead his peers and plan next year’s festival.
Success follows TMHS Wildcat Theatre as 15 students were named as National Qualifiers from this year’s conference. Selected by professional judges, these 15 Wildcats will now have the opportunity to take their talents to the national stage, competing against students from other states. In addition to 15 National Qualifiers, TMHS Theatre saw two mainstage qualifiers, one All-State cast performer and 27 college callbacks.
Whether its theatrical expression or technical theatre, students showing interest in high school theatre have the ability to find their passion and pursue their talents. TMHS Theatre, along with Tomball High School STAGE, have truly allowed its students to flourish in a creative environment full of unique opportunities.
From stage talent to set design and the technical aspects of a show, Theatre in Tomball ISD is top-notch. TMHS Theatre offers the community a variety of opportunities to showcase their talents throughout the year, including its upcoming musical The Music Man.
Set to open its show on January 25, 2024, TMHS’ The Music Man is a collaborative performance featuring all fine arts disciplines with over 150 students working on this project across campus.
Known as a fun and feel-good family show, The Music Man is a classic that is sure to entertain.
“We work in a great school and in a great district,” said Ballew. “Audience support is so important to these students. We can’t wait to see you at the show!”
