Three CFISD high school students were selected to perform with the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in the 98th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
Cy-Fair High School senior and color guard captain Hailey Harrison and junior Christie Johnson will join Cypress Woods High School senior and color guard captain Marra Eshleman in New York City on Thanksgiving Day to perform in the prestigious parade.
“My friend told me about tryouts for the marching band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and encouraged me to join her,” Harrison said. “We both submitted videos of the flag spins and choreography in February. After a long process, we were notified that we made the color guard team.”
Despite months of advanced notice before the event, there isn’t much preparation until they arrive in New York.

“We don’t start learning our routine until the week of Thanksgiving,” Eshleman said. “I leave the Saturday before and we practice the routine until the day of the parade.”
This experience will be a great opportunity for the girls to learn new things from different people from all over the country.
“I’m expecting to learn how to learn routines faster and also more leadership skills,” Johnson said. “My goal is to have a great time and cherish this special moment.”
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade will air on Nov. 28 on NBC and stream live on Peacock starting at 7:30 a.m. with an encore presentation at 1 p.m.
