The Woodlands Wildflower Festival Art Contest Invites Local Artists to Leave Their Mark
A child’s drawing of a butterfly resting on a bluebonnet could soon appear on a bag carried throughout The Woodlands. An adult artist’s interpretation of a wildflower meadow could become the image that represents one of the community’s longest-running fall traditions.
The Woodlands Township is inviting local artists of all ages to take part in the 38th Annual Wildflower Festival Art Contest, with entries accepted from Monday, August 17, through Friday, September 18, 2026.
The contest gives children, teens and adults an opportunity to share how they see the natural beauty of The Woodlands while competing for cash prizes and a place in the festival’s official artwork.
Winning Artwork Will Become Part of the Festival
Artists are asked to create a nature scene that includes wildflowers. The winning children’s entry will be printed on the official recycled tote bag distributed during The Woodlands Wildflower Festival, while the winning adult artwork will become the festival’s official poster.
For young artists, that means a drawing created at a kitchen table, in an art class or during a quiet summer afternoon could be carried by festival visitors across the community.
Entries will be judged in five age groups:
- Up to age 4
- Ages 5 to 8
- Ages 9 to 13
- Ages 14 to 18
- Adults age 19 and older
First-place winners in each of the four children’s categories will receive $100. One of those entries will also be selected as the Children’s Grand Prize winner and featured on the festival tote bag.
The adult first-place winner will receive $500, and the artwork will be used as the official 2026 Wildflower Festival poster.
How to Enter The Woodlands Wildflower Festival Art Contest
Artwork should feature a nature scene incorporating wildflowers and must be created on heavy, unlined white paper, canvas or poster board measuring no more than 11 inches by 17 inches.
Accepted materials include paint, watercolors, oils, pen and ink, pastels, crayons, colored pencils and markers. Photographs are not eligible, and no writing should appear on the front of the artwork.
Each participant may submit one entry.
The back of the artwork should include the artist’s name, address and phone number. Children’s entries should also include the artist’s age.
Entries may be delivered beginning August 17 to The Woodlands Township office at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The deadline to submit artwork is 5:30 p.m. Friday, September 18. Winners will be notified before the festival.
A Creative Tradition Tied to a Community Celebration
The art contest leads into The Woodlands Wildflower Festival, set for Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rob Fleming Park, 6055 Creekside Forest Drive.
Hosted by The Woodlands Lions Club in partnership with The Woodlands Township, the free family event centers on the distribution of thousands of wildflower seed packets provided by community sponsors.
The festival will also feature wildflower crafts, inflatables, face painting, live performances, food trucks and other family-friendly activities.
For residents searching for free fall events in The Woodlands, children’s art contests near Houston or family activities at Rob Fleming Park, the festival offers a mix of creativity, outdoor education and community tradition.
The annual event also gives families a practical way to bring a piece of the festival home. Seed packets distributed during the celebration can later become backyard flowers, pollinator-friendly garden spaces and small reminders of a shared community experience.
What Artists and Families Should Know
All submitted artwork must be picked up from The Woodlands Township by November 13, 2026. Artwork that is not collected by the deadline will be donated to a local charity.
Note that by entering, artists or their parents or guardians confirm that the submission is original work. They also agree that the artist’s first and last name, artwork and age group may be used during the festival and in related promotional materials.
