For residents watching new grocery stores and retail development across The Woodlands and Spring, two Sprouts Farmers Market projects are beginning to tell a larger story about where shopping options are following population growth in south Montgomery County.

Sprouts Farmers Market is now nearing the grand opening of its new store at 4775 W Panther Creek Dr #400, The Woodlands, TX 77381, with the specialty grocer officially listing Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, as its opening date. Meanwhile, farther east in Spring, Sprouts has been announced as an anchor for the upcoming Grand Imperial Marketplace at the northwest corner of Grand Parkway/Highway 99 and Imperial Promenade Drive.

Taken together, the projects mean another familiar grocery option is arriving soon for shoppers in The Woodlands while an entirely new retail hub begins taking shape near some of the fastest-growing residential communities along the Grand Parkway.

Sprouts Farmers Market in The Woodlands opens Sept. 11

The Woodlands location will occupy approximately 30,478 square feet in the former Randalls space at 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive. An original state project filing described a roughly $3.46 million tenant renovation of the existing building, with work initially listed as beginning July 1.

Although that filing carried a later estimated completion date, Sprouts' current store directory now confirms that the location is scheduled to open Sept. 11, giving residents a much clearer timeline for when they can begin shopping there. The store page lists both in-store shopping and curbside pickup.

For nearby households, the project is also a reuse of a longtime grocery site rather than construction on a previously undeveloped property. The former Randalls space is being reshaped for a different type of grocery experience while keeping a supermarket use at a familiar shopping destination.

What makes Sprouts different from a traditional supermarket?

Sprouts Farmers Market traces its modern history to 2002, when its first store opened in Chandler, Arizona, with an emphasis on making fresh, natural and organic foods easier to find and more affordable. Its grocery roots stretch even further back through the Boney family's Southern California produce business and a small fruit stand established in 1943.

Today, Phoenix-headquartered Sprouts is one of the country's largest specialty retailers focused on fresh, natural and organic foods, operating more than 480 stores across 25 states and employing more than 36,000 people, according to its current investor information.

The concept is designed to feel somewhat like an indoor farmers market rather than a conventional supermarket. Produce sits at the center of the store, surrounded by departments carrying meat and seafood, deli foods, dairy, frozen groceries, baked goods, bulk foods, vitamins and supplements and other everyday grocery items.

Sprouts says about 90% of its more than 19,000 products are natural or organic, with particularly broad selections for shoppers looking for gluten-free, plant-based, grass-fed, non-GMO and other lifestyle-focused foods. The retailer also carries more than 2,400 Sprouts-branded products and offers prepared meals, sushi, sandwiches and other grab-and-go options through its Market Corner Deli.

That focus helps explain why the chain occupies a somewhat different space in the grocery market: Sprouts is not simply a produce store, but it also does not try to mirror the assortment or layout of a traditional full-size supermarket. Its stores are generally built around fresh foods, wellness products and specialty grocery items in an easier-to-navigate format.

Another Sprouts is planned for Grand Imperial Marketplace in Spring

The Woodlands opening will not be the end of Sprouts' expansion in the area.

Sprouts has also been announced as a major anchor of Grand Imperial Marketplace, a planned retail development at the northwest corner of Grand Parkway and Imperial Promenade Drive in Spring.

The approximately 170,000-square-foot development, a joint venture between Fidelis and 830 Investors Ltd., is expected to bring a collection of national retailers to an area experiencing substantial residential construction.

In addition to Sprouts, announced businesses include Marshalls, Ross, Burlington, Five Below and Planet Fitness. Fidelis' current leasing materials identify Sprouts, Marshalls, Planet Fitness and Five Below among the center's anchor tenants while additional inline, endcap and pad-site opportunities remain available.

Construction on the Sprouts location is expected to begin in fall 2026, with completion currently targeted for fall 2027.

The project will also give Sprouts another presence in the broader Spring area, joining the company's existing store at 20708 Kuykendahl Road.

Grand Imperial Marketplace follows rooftops along the Grand Parkway

Perhaps the most important part of the Grand Imperial Marketplace story is not simply which retailers are coming, but why a project of this size is being developed there.

The center is positioned near The Falls at Imperial Oaks, Woodson's Reserve and The Highlands, along with several other current and planned neighborhoods. Marketing materials for Grand Imperial Marketplace describe the location as part of a fast-growing stretch of Spring connecting Interstate 45 and Interstate 69 and identify significant unmet demand for retail, restaurant and personal-service businesses nearby.

Fidelis' materials estimate a population of 112,507 people within five miles of the site, including 48,071 within three miles. Traffic counts are significant as well. The materials report approximately 61,934 vehicles per day on Grand Parkway west of Imperial Promenade Drive and 47,053 east of the intersection, with another 19,140 vehicles traveling Birnham Woods Drive north of Grand Parkway.

Those figures help explain why major national retailers are committing to the site before the surrounding residential landscape has finished developing.

The Grand Imperial Marketplace materials highlight thousands of planned homes in developments including Imperial Oaks Square, Imperial Oaks Loft, Meadows at Imperial Oaks, Porters Mill, The Highlands and an expansion of Woodson's Reserve, along with additional future development. The leasing package describes the broader area as having nearly 25,000 additional homes planned nearby.

For residents, that growth can translate into something more practical: fewer trips farther down the Grand Parkway or toward Interstate 45 for groceries, fitness, clothing and everyday shopping as additional stores open closer to home.

What happens next for Sprouts in The Woodlands and Spring?

The next milestone comes quickly.

The Grand Imperial Marketplace project represents the longer-term piece of the story. Construction activity is expected to begin as the development moves toward its planned 2027 openings, bringing Sprouts and a larger collection of national retailers to the Grand Parkway corridor.

For growing communities across The Woodlands and Spring, the two projects illustrate a familiar pattern in north Houston's suburban growth: rooftops come first, and retail increasingly follows.
